After receiving excellent fishing reports from local guides, Brendan Morrison heads out on a solo fishing trip off the coast of Tofino, BC. He takes this opportunity to share some of his top fishing tips on how to be more successful and efficient while on the water. As always, craziness unfolds as he wrangles multiple double headers of large salmon while operating the boat and battling rods all on his own.

I fish solo all the time around Vancouver. It’s so much fun. I landed a 30lbs chinook solo at T-10 last Sept. Man does it make fishing even more of a sport when trying to net solo - especially in a chop.

12:45 that's a Washington produced hatchery fish. WA has restricted our fishing seasons so much we can barely fish for them but lucky you Canadians can enjoy them

Those white mercs are nice! You have the double controls, do you find it is easier to dock this size of the boat from the helm, or the stern controls station?

Hi BM Enjoy every single one of your videos. You are living the dream. I wish I could troll around by myself with 2 balls down like you do in your Kingfisher. Unfortunately without the luxury of auto pilot and or a rear helm controls it aint happening.

tip for solo at least a 6' pole on the net play them out and bring them in slow ... this is where most who are right handed ... have most issues as now your left arm is tired .... and landing is where it all tends to go wrong ... kick the speed down but not dead panning .... another is if you have enough space carry two nets .......
@ReelWestCoast

Great episode, and love the tips. A question for you, ive learned that with spoons, especially, its possible to do a release with a gaff...once you know how (and its taken me quite a bit of practice). I see you do the release with the pliers, any reason you chose not to do the gaff release?
@ReelWestCoast
@ReelWestCoast 5 ай бұрын
Not any real reason but sometimes if the fish is small and laying cooperatively and we can see the hook we will opt for the pliers. Gaff releases are a great method and we highly encourage them. We actually have a video coming out very soon on "How to do a Gaff Release" and why it is the best method for preservation of the fish. Keep it up and thanks for watching!

Thank you for this video. It was great fishing that water colour. Do you ever jig salmon around Tofino ?
@ReelWestCoast
@ReelWestCoast 5 ай бұрын
We haven’t jigged much in Tofino but we did one episode where we jigged up live squid and then mooched for salmon. While we were jigging the squid we ended up jigging up salmon as well. We also did an episode showing how we jig for salmon and what our method is but that was in Parksville.

are you able to run two rods in Canada or is it because your cameraman is on board?
@ReelWestCoast
@ReelWestCoast 5 ай бұрын
In tidal waters, there is no limit to the number of fishing rods you may use. In rivers, streams and the tidal waters of the Fraser River, there is a limit of one rod per fisher.
