You can see a pretty decent shot of Craig Jones' under the leg toe hold and why it's so effective against Martinez's single leg x at 19:14. By reaching back and under his own left leg, he can use his hamstring to put more breaking pressure on Martinez's ankle. He extends his left leg, and in doing so, amplifies the pressure on the ankle much more than would be possible with arms only. The guy's a genius.

With heel hooks illegal, the whole leg lock game becomes odd ( the game these guys would normally go for against bigger opponents) When you know they can't heel hook, you can defend most leg locks by exposing your own heel and kind of hanging out in positions that normally wouldn't be safe (Craig's last match showcased this really well). So for Jay Rod, he did really well but the types of attacks he could do from mount/technical mount just aren't easy against a big guy shoving you off.

Thats pretty solid advice. Ive been training for about 4 years and still break a couple of these Like today i re used some wraps without washing them. Dont do it 😅 i did it because ive had a recent change in living situation and i feel guilty about it Oh and it your say 6 months in or just skirting that line between brand new and starting to get to grips with it, learn to train with the new guys I was training today and theres a 14 year old lad couple months in getting frustrated with another new beginer because they were holding pads with eachother and the newer lad wasnt doing it "correct" In this specific scenario okay you cant work that perfect boxing combo the coach is telling you but instead of getting frustrated throw as much of the combo you can and move, make an angle let the guy move and reset and go again You get to practice your footwork and without knowing it so does your training partner practices his Because the better the lads your training with get the better you get aswell

Craig is awesome. Even though there is still Gordon, the god of this field, Craig is awesome. It seems like he released regardless of the tap cause he knew it has already ended way before his opponent did.

There's a lot of techniques that are lower probability but doesn't mean they never work or don't have value. Plenty of footage of Ben Eddy or Nathan Orchard successfully using rubber guard.

Is the no heel hook rule just to keep people from spamming heel hooks? Or to prevent injury because of the number of matches?
