It's been a long time since anyone saw an update on our 1974 Ford Capri project car, just a little shop project we have sitting around. This is NOT the Junkyard Digs Capri we purchased years ago, though that project IS still sitting around here and we will give you an update on it reasonably soon.
Today we're getting this car that honestly will become more of a "daily driver" not a race car, one thing we have been held back by is the fitment of these wheels we picked up. We needed longer studs to get them to be safe. Fortunately our good friend Norm at Team Blitz came through with some longer rear lug studs for us. Just gotta get them swapped out!

Good to see the Capri getting a little attention. I originally came over here from Junkyard Digs because of it the other Capri and staid because of the other equally interesting stuff you do with classic American cars. I am from the UK and I used to see quite a few Capri's back in the 1980's when I was a kid and always thought they were very cool, but you dont see them much these days. Probably because they rusted away long ago.

That's where a body saw comes in handy . Pretty neat cars.

Cheers for the video Rich. For those looking for some Capri action, Ben from @tastyclassics has just started restoring a Capri that was parked for 25 years.

We all make mistakes working on our rides. Only way we don't is if we don't work on them. Speaking of which I got two I need to work on. Good inspiration Rich from a thorough technician.

A 4 litre and a 5 speed from a late 80's ranger wakes these up a lot! I swapped a 5.0 into my ranger and took the engine and trans into one of these, It was an animal. Light and fast!

you should have put the 5.0L in the capri, and left the ranger alone... I have a '73 Capri with a 302/t5/9" rear end, My 302 weighs the same as 2.6L/2.8L because of the alloy heads, the car weighs 2400lbs, and with me and swmbo in it, weighs 2730lbs... and it runs mid 11.00s...

everybody in UK was shouting at the telly "SLIDE HAMMER" these cars were notorious for spinning in the wet, so we got plenty of practice fixing them after the back wheels bounced off the kerb...

Untrue if you use proper tires. I'm on my 6th Capri and the back end is only coming out if you provoke it. I used to drive these things hard and all had V6's from 135 to 220hp. And the sandbag comment most says is just crap. We have real winters in Norway and I had never problem getting up hills etc. Mine had always studded tires during winters. Only tires I slid around with was cooper tires which was utter slick and had no grip at all even with full thread. I used to drive 38.000 miles a year in my Capri.

@@MrCaprinut the capris i drove in the 80s were [almost] new hire cars, most fitted with original rubber, Goodyear G800 if i remember [165 x 13] i drove all cars to the limit, mk2 escort, capri, cortina, granada, transit, + fiesta, the only cars i spun on a regular basis were the capris, whether 1.3, 1.6 or 2ltr, they just snapped on you when you got them sideways in the cold english rain they were the most unpredictable fords i thrashed about as a late teen, had my wages "docked" for damage on them twice, £10 a week for a month, + a written warning lasting 6 months i drove a 2.8 capri about 10yrs ago, the lad had a X brace mod. on the rear axle, he said it did wonders for the handling, i took his word for it, as i knew it would not be £10 a week for a month now...

A Capri video. I have not been here since the last Capri video. I will be back when and if you ever make more and sort all the v6 engine stuff out. There just isn't enough of these cars getting attention on the tube

There was 3 axles on Capris. Atlas which you have, Koln (very weak, looks like atlas but unequal bolt spacing on the rear cover and English axle which have third member you can take off from the front like a 9" axle. I have never heard any of these has retaining clips for the half shafts. All is only hold by the reataining plate at wheel and only thing that prevent the axle to come out of the plate is the crimp ring behind the wheelbearing. Btw Expressed panels in UK has full boot floors for these. The also do the well by itself at £340

Time for the lincoln locker when reassembly occurs. These work well until you upgrade the engine.

But , what did you use to seal the rear diff housing? Sealant or a gasket? Just woundering.
@richardlucore6813
@richardlucore6813 Ай бұрын
I used liquid sealant. It's quick, it's easy, and it works..... I also didn't have a gasket on hand for this tiny little diff.
