TEAM Clutch: Is It Over?

In this video, I discuss my observations with the TEAM primary clutch installed by Arctic Cat on my 2021 Riot 8000. It seems like a good clutch, but it has a weird quirk that I’m concerned about.
As I see it, I have four options for next winter, and I’d like your opinion on which one is the better choice.
This is not a bad review of the clutch or TEAM in general. It’s merely a discussion of a problem I have encountered with my specific clutch.

I was a Cat tech at the time I orderd my sled a 2021 Riot 8000. I was the first to bring the lean spot to the attention of the Cat engineers. I was told to add some clutch weight and add oil to my gas. It helped till the new calibration was ready. After the new calibration was done I hit 5,000 miles with no new issues.

That's awesome, thanks for commenting! Weight helped me (a little), but the Adapt clutch helped a lot more. I have a tune by Speedwerx, and that helps a little, as well.

Hey man! i have that same sled, same issue. I swore it was in the motor, but i have the precision reflash. on my last outing i got to a point where i was running 80.5 gram weights!! the stumble right where your talking about was noticeably better but not 100%. So I think, #1 your right, its in the primary clutch. #2 I'm going to go with the adapt clutch next season! Good luck!

Just checking in - did you end up getting the Adapt clutch? Just curious what your experience has been, if you got it.

I have a 2020 riot, 2021 zr 8000 and a 850 backcountry. The riot and the backcountry do just what your talking about, but my ZR does not. The reason why is because of the gearing. I have a narrow trail from my house to the groomed trail and it’s hard to maintain a reasonable speed (15mph) with the cat and ski doo. I even upgraded the riot with a adapt clutch kit. It was smother but it didn’t change the Lowe end problem. I installed a speedwerx stage two kit on the riot. Then I blew a belt because I came to the end of my gearing. Stock gearing is only good for 104 mph. I put 21/41 gears in and that took care of it, but with the 1.6” lug track it was not good in the deep snow. Ended up using a 22/46 hyvo gears and chain from venom. Works great!

Wow, so the new clutch didn’t make a difference, but gears did? I wondered about that, but it seemed more like a clutch problem.

@@ponycarfan like I said my 850 backcountry does the same thing but worse. The p drive is supposed to be the best, but I think that is just a matter of opinion.The adapt clutch is certainly the way to go. I found it’s a lot more quiet at idle than the team primary.

Sounds like maybe update to the new Adapt Clutch? My 18’ XF 8000 does the same thing, lurches on the lower mph range. Sounds like you’ve exhausted all options to rectify the problem other than the weight/spring combo.

I agree. I’ve seen reports from people online who tested different weights along with different springs and had some success. However, it seems like the new clutch has a greater chance of getting it right the first time. I’ve got plenty of time to think about it, and am still not sure what I’ll do.

Holy crap you guys are trying to turn a high performance 800 into something that sounds like you should be riding a 500 give me a break. Don't tame the beast just saying let her buck
@Eighty8Fitter

@@toddwarner1619 no but it should be smoother between that range like he is saying. Sometimes you have to ride respectfully through towns and can’t ride like an idiot WOT

And if you really think about it that's probably when your power valves are starting to open really if you can't handle it buy something smaller I just can't believe you guys.

I see u already went to adapt but just curious, was the speedwerx a softer primary spring?
@ponycarfan
@ponycarfan Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. I went back in my notes from Jeremy Houle and asked him about this. Unfortunately, all I have written down is that the primary spring was different than stock. The H5 alloy is superior, because it holds up better than the stock springs. The secondary spring is the same, but alloy makes it last much longer than stock. That’s all I have written down, unfortunately. They put 75.4g weights on, with weights that could add a couple grams more. I think stock was 73 or 74. Because the weights didn’t change dramatically, engagement is same as stock - 3,800 and top rpm should be stock, I have to wonder how much different the primary spring actually is. I feel like the Speedwerx kit was good, and for those trying to get more performance it’s probably worth it. However, I was just trying to make everything work better. After going with the Adapt clutch, I think the Speedwerx mods weren’t the right solution for me. I liked working with them, and Jeremy was very generous with his time, answering questions. But, in my situation, I spent money on something I didn’t need.

Are you positive it’s the primary the secondary is the dominant clutch it allows the primary to move in it determines the clutching ratio I would first put the plastic secondary shim in the secondary that prevents binding first it’s a lot cheaper than a new clutch. It sounds like spring binding in the secondary to me.
@ponycarfan
@ponycarfan 2 жыл бұрын
Excellent idea, and I hadn't considered binding in the secondary. I agree, that would be cheaper and also a better use of my time this off-season. Where would you recommend I get the shim? Thank you for the advice!

I believe ssi or slp sell the shims you need I’ve ordered directly from both places online before and parts came quickly good luck on figuring it out.

I think its just this sled is designed to rip and that's where the power band is. I had a rally where I had to double and it can only be in that range due to i was doubling and tight trial with huge bumps.

I agree, it's the nature of the beast. I think the new clutch has improved it quite a bit, though.

@ponycarfan glad to hear that and a new clutch isn't bad, aha. I am looking forward to trying the adapt out if I order a new sled.
