Even though I've been playing TF2 for nearly 10 years, I only just started playing deathrun in the last month. It's incredible to me that this sort of project can flourish in such a niche microcosm of a game community.

Yes, it was originally planned to have it's own minigame. However the idea didn't get far as my friends who were helping had no interest in the game or making assets for it since I was the only person on the team who knew about it. We also had limitations on the amount of entitys we could place in the map so yea. The idea was cut but it remained on the PS1 stack as a reminder. Another piece of trivia i'll let slip, the textures of the game cases and the PS1 are taken from scans and photographs I took of my personal PS1 collection. The "Shining" disk was actually a bootleg copy of Toy Story 2 I used play as a kid. Yes that disk actually exists IRL, I still have it.@@legorobot2369

Fun note to add from my experiences playing this map: Zurg will occasionally forget which team he's on and will try to kill death instead.

32:12. Incorrect, there is a 16th "spot" it can be, which is the bud card (also enabling the burg boss), resulting in no cheats card being in the map. Detaisl not mentioned here: -The activator causes johnny to attack through the side doors in phase 1 of johnny by walking above the doors. -If you beat johnny with the bud card, a bud bomb will appear in johnny at spawn!

I always thought it was weird for the first phase Johnny to not swing his axe through the doors when I solo it, but happens when I play with people... Same with the bud card, I thought it was a separate entity but it seems it shares the same entity as the regular cheats card huh? You learn something everyday even if I managed to crack the literal hardest secret in the map hahaha. Thanks for the information, just when I knew I had everything about this map but as usual I always seem to forget something.

This walkthrough has been very useful, as I have played this map many times and still feel like I missed out on some secrets. And as someone who has witnessed the Bud Server Crash, I must say it's a good thing you omitted how to obtain the Bud card lol. Hell, some servers openly modified the map specifically to remove the Bud card and make sure it can't be used to crash them.

Very interesting...I'm glad you made an in-depth video on the whole map since a lot of it I didn't get from the few videos I've seen of it. Is the Bud Card _supposed_ to crash the game or did that happen during development from a mapping error & they just decided to leave it that way? (for whatever reason)

Shredding a bud card is meant to crash the server. iirc what happens when you insert the bud card, the action will kill every single entity that is in progress in the map to do the shredding, once the shredding is over the map simply deletes everything, including you (which is why you get teleported to the overlay that says "YOU KILLED EVERYTHING. GOOD JOB COWBOY". After deleting the players from the map, the map will spawn a lot of entities, this will cause the server to crash as the server cannot handle too many entities. This is an intentional crash and it is not a mapping error, and it is also why the Bud Card is the rarest secret in the map and why Burg (the hardest obstacle in the map) will spawn when it does.

@@SaudDehan Huh, okay. Is it necessary for every other entity to be removed while the Bud Card is being shredded? (especially since what the shredder emits just looks like simple particle effects, which I believe usually aren't very taxing on the Source Engine)

@@TheCarson116It's probably cause it is an inevitable crash that will happen no matter what so there is no reason for anything else to be active. But it could also be another reason and that is to avoid any conflicting actions that also kills other actions from happening while the shredder is active (could interrupt the crashing part of it?) It has been a while since I revisited this map, so I'm kind of rusty with these info.

Something I’m surprised you didn’t bring up with the three zappers is you can stand on the tips of them and be just fine (where they touch the wall) discovered that on accident when i failbared trying to get to the vents.

No, they just stopped paying for the site hosting it. It's on pretty much every deathrun server anyways to download from.

yea.. there are already at most 2 people remaining for the start of the spyro bit so 50% of this map might aswell not exist, unless 100 player servers can run stable enough for DR, or perhaps someone can make an objectively enjoyable version of DR where there are map-dependant respawn waves

You forgot that there is a secret code where you can get the Bud Card Fast. Type in wannabuyso next at the Woody and Buzz Statue, and get it as fast as possible to escape the Bud Room.

I know it exists. It's the one secret I'm not revealing due to how catastrophic it will be if people learned about how they get it. It is also to respect the developer's wishes as they obviously made it extremely tough to get the bud card for a reason (potential crashing and trolling). Unless the developers themselves gave me an approval to show the secret in full, It's not going to happen. The rest of the included secrets here are fine as they are easy to get, understand, and most importantly, not used to troll and crash the server to ruin everyone's fun and annoy the owners of said crashed servers.
