In Team Minimax 1100r Aircraft - Hit the 10 Hour Mark I spend some more time in the pattern before heading out to the practice area. The next flight will continue my test cards with stalls on the list.

Dennis, nice approach down Final. That runway stayed perfectly still until you went into your round out, flare, and touchdown (super smooth). All is so nice. Thanks,

It is a shame that we tend to evaluate our flights almost totally by the quality of the landing. The fact of the matter is that it is difficult to grease it in under the tension of what might be an emergency. In my book, it was a good decision and a good job putting your plane back on the ground. To me, that makes it a good flight.

You did the right thing getting it down, it you are not happy and you picked up on the need to "Aviate, Navigate, Communicate", then trouble shoot and the fact you tried to jump ahead. You id not tell use if the charging system now works after your changes!!!! 🙂 I wish you a Happy New Year and plenty of flying adventures with the HurryMax 🙂

It did work well. I took off with 13.1V before engine start and landed with 12.9 after shutdown. That was after quite a bit of taxing. Being in the pattern I’m sure it didn’t charge as much as it would in route. I’ll head to the practice area next flight and see what that produces. I forgot to update on that.

@@DTMinimax can you monitor your voltage during the flight? If so you would see the charge voltage being produced at different speeds, I would expect something in the order of 13 to 13.5V at cruise.

I think that was a smart decision to abort the takeoff when you suspected you might have had an engine problem. I know it's difficult to mentally transition between takeoff and landing modes when you're not expecting to have to do that! I enjoyed watching the touch-and-go's and go-arounds too; I assume you were just practicing the transitions. Onward!

You got it, I’m working up to trying some wheel landings. I believe they may be easier on asphalt than the three point. At least a tail low wheel landing with a touch of power. It was good to see what that transition from climbing to landing was like. Really went well, I was just carrying a bit too much speed in the landing.

Merry Christmas & all that stuff ha ha, that was yesterday for us here. Hope you're having a great time. Good post de-brief on the almost mishap there, just glad you caught it before it ground looped on you. How did the test go with the charging issue? Anyway, hope you get it sorted out, cheers.

I landed at the same voltage I took off at, so good news! So it replenished what I used on the ground.

You probably noticed that I switched the cameras around and the video is stabilized so much better on the tail. Difference between a $400 camera and a $60 camera.

Hey everything is good. I sent my prop back for adjustment and got it back a few weeks ago. Unfortunately the weather has been crappy and I’ve had to do some traveling for work. I have it on the plane just need to do a static run and probably adjust the idle and then I’ll be back in the air.

I also plan to use a 1/2 VW so I find all this very interesting. Have you considered experimenting with vortex generators during this flight testing phase? Have a Happy New Year looking forward to the next video

Hey Michael, I’m haven’t thought about the VG’s but I do like to see others giving it a try. The 1/2 vw is a wonderful engine and runs very smooth. Happy New Year to you as well!

Hey Gary, everything s great. I sent my prop back in Late January and got it back just in time for the wind to blow like crazy around here. Should be back in the air in a couple weeks.

Smart move with the aborted take off. And like they say when things aren't quite right, FLY THE PLANE, all will work out. I envy your current and future flights of fancy. Got to remember this is very lite aircraft with a small wheel foot print. It's going to dance around at speed near the ground. Practice will improve the landings, it will get better and be fun at the same time.
