Botman should've been in contention for the CB role, given that Newcastle have joint, if not the best defence in the league. Yet gets no looks in, criminally underrated.

Newcastle’s defense is brilliant, I agree. But why not Schar then? Trippier is there, that’s enough. Both city and Arsenal have great defenders too, so… Although, I don’t agree with Dias. Ake, Akanji and Stones were better this season. Dias is yesterday’s news

Casemiro and Shaw should've been in this. Utd most clean sheets resulting in DDG golden glove, defence has been the one and Shaw has been the best of the entire defence - being versatile in LB/CB

Estupiñan has constantly kept good performances, so has Shaw. What makes Estupiñan stand out is that this is his first season at Brighton, and he’s been playing really well. Shaw’s been good too, but I think Estupiñan edges Shaw.

With the impact Casemiro has had in Manutd this season, it's only dumb to exclude him from the team of the season. Manutd had Varane, Martinez and were still getting slapped before Casemiro joined. When Casemiro lost form, we saw clearly who Manutd most important player was. He's back in form the cleansheets are coming again. His impact places him ahead of Rodri who has equally been magnificent this season but his impact on City doesn't rival Casemiro impact on Manutd or Odegaard on Arsenal or KDB on City.

What is actually very nice imo that Dean picked a varied team not only based on the final table places but on consistency, stats, importance to the club and overall performances this season.
