Walmart has a new kind of repackaged Yu-Gi-Oh box on the shelf, the Monster Box Battle Edition for $30! It's actually a surprisingly good value, complete with a mat, sleeves, deck box, binder, and most importantly: Structure Decks! So we bought them, opened them, had a duel, and we have thoughts!

This is actually a good value. The Mat alone is $15-$20 bucks. Konami needs to do an official version for $30 and have it be all theme specific (i.e. fire king mat, deck, sleeves, etc.). You can even add a small booklet that guides you on combos and how to play the deck

Playmats are like 15$, card case 5$, sleeves 5$ for one pack as well. Already 25$ in guaranteed value in there, and then you have a whole deck of cards for 5$. Actual good value here for once, especially with reprints like Infinite Impernanence

Would be great but with how the UR system and repartition work I really doubt it will hapenned because it would force Konami to be too generous. Like, the Traptrix deck offer 11 different cards that are UR on MD, no way they will give us that for 10$ 😭

TCGs with a digital variant should do that. It’s pretty cool to buy a pack and essentially have two packs to build a collection and try different things. Although, a lot of Yugioh’s better cards are higher rarity which will make the card crafting in Master Duel a bit more iffy. They could go the route of not being able to dismantle, but run into the problem of, well, not being able to dismantle/recycle cards.

@@Animexdracoa way to balance it somewhat is to let the "code card" given with the structure deck allow you to reveal/open one to three of the special pack(s) that give you the cards needed to play the deck in MD (or at least the archetype's core, I understand they won't give all the staples for free)

It's clearly obvious that this is a bunch of surplus stock bundled together to just clear out inventory. However, that being said, it's not a bad deal at all. Most of those decks around 12-15 bucks, and the playmat is easily $15 on its own, with everything else the actual value of the contents (if purchased separately) is pushing $45. Kinda surprised that a product like this exists but I'm glad it does.

It's actually really nice that they include a proper rubber playmat with the set, rather than yet another one of the shitty paper ones. That alone is a good value imo, along with all the other accessories you get, which are actually useful stuff.

Konami didn't make these. These products are made by a third party who buys unsold stock at a massive discount, then repackages it to sell back at places like Walmart.

I bought several of these a while back at my Walmart they were $25 plus some change here in SoCal. I thought for what you got it was decent value, especially maybe for a beginner to get something to get a taste of the game and get some accessories along with it. Overall not the most amazing product, but for a repackage its crazy the value isnt bad.

This was a cool duel and product wise is arguably the best thing for newcomers or returning players for value. The only way I would improve it is if possible add like two or three packs from the rarity collection box for giving an opportunity for more staple cards in case the structure deck in question doesn’t offer much.

Actually a better starter set than the two player starter set. Sleeves, deck box, mat, binder, a structure deck that you'll need two more of if you get something decent like cydra or traptrix. Like assuming you buy the other two structures or loose cards for less than 30 that's everything you need to at least try out the game or even go to locals and have a chance for $60 that's an actual deal.

I know that they did something like this before that usually included large versions of a card. I have seen a few on amazon that are old now that included a mat. It would be nice if Konami made some like this, but it was deck themed and not random, so you know what you are getting.

I think those Monster Box Battle Edition are kinda cool for beginners. Because all that together is more of the price versus buying them separately. A new beginner will have a Play Mat, Deck Box, Card Sleevs, Duelist portfolio, and a Structure Deck. Maybe random but at least something 😅

In game 1, you forgot to resummon blue sky during your next standby after purple banished it. You filled your board but wouldn't have had enough spaces if blue returned. Might have changed things

I played a few games with my brother were we played with the old vanilla monsters but with modern spells and traps and fusion upgrades. The idea being what if fusion cards had been good way back when. to make use of the weaker low-level monsters

This sounds cool on paper, but I would like ones that have a coherent theme. The single structure deck does feel awkward since you’d have to go out of the way to get 2 more copies of it if you really want to use that deck.

I'm not sure what the decks are like value-wise as I'm an MTG player, but $30 for a playmat, a binder, and 50 sleeves sounds on par, let alone a preconstructed deck on top!

Decks usually retail around 10 Sleeves are around 4-5 Mat is around 15 Deck box is around 4-5 Binders are usually 10-15

The Truth I think this The First Mystery Power thing of Walmart that is Not Only Worth Buying, But also i Myself is Actually Interested in. This is actually quite a decent value bundle especially to give a newcomer. A binder, mat and a deckbox included. Just add a dice/coin and zone divder and it's a great product. It's super similar to what pokemon TCG does to with there trainer toolkits for new players. How Konami hasn't done this for the TCG is kinda wack. Especially when it's a way more welcoming way to bring in new players compared to that 2-player starter deck.
