Love Sebastian! Have been following his career for several years. So funny. He just has to stay true to his roots and he’ll be fine. Never let the trappings of success go to your head. He will always be that Italian boy being yelled at by his father over something ridiculous ! And we love him for making us laugh about all of it, because we can all relate!❤🎉❤🎉

It truly is an Italian thing. I’m 51 and grew up in an all Italian family in Brooklyn. I never realized how negative and superstitious I was until I was older. I feel like the world is designed to have a balance. If thing’s are going good then bad is right around the corner.

Sebastian, I am a decade + older than you, yet I could relate to many of your funny stories, growing up. I was part of a different nationality [Polish] in a blue-collar neighborhood on the SW side of Chicago, a mix of predominantly Polish, Italian, & Irish people. Even though our cultures were different, I could very much relate to the way you describe things and the general attitudes of the day. Your presentation of childhood days feels so hilariously familiar and spot on that I have loved you from day one [Love you too, Conan, ha! :)].

This friggin' guy. As another 2nd generation Italian American this guy's success is great to watch. His stories of life at his grandparents sounded pretty much exactly like mine. Especially the communication disconnect with my Nonna and the sad hilarity of the health issues. They loved us so much but in the case of my Nonna, it was like this remote type of love...mostly connected to eating. West coast Italians got into basilico big time. Green pasghetti was all I ever wanted to eat at Nonna's. And "Hamburg help" when Maria didn't have the energy to cook. The lady could also grow 1 inch long ash curls on her Tareyton's while engrossed in soap operas....mostly Days of weird People's Live's who talk way too much. Then it was off to the creeks of the Temescal in Oakland for hours straight and dropping quarters into Asteroids at a local arcade. But this is about Mr. Maniscalco. What kinda goofy Sicilian name is that anyway? What does it mean? That's always an interesting thing to ponder. My last name means "small garden hoe" to a bunch of funny and friendly peasant farmers living wayyyy outside of Lucca. In the sticks. Real sticks...dirty po' sticks too! Frankly, I wish they'd never come over. I got this recurring fantasy of stumbling upon some time machine and going back to the late 1800's and talking the lot of 'em out of getting on some damn dangerous steamship. I'd bring up the Titanic, naturally.

His comedy comes from relatable experiences and exaggerating the reaction. One of his funniest bits was his take on “company” coming over unannounced and how the reaction to that has changed over time. Not everything he does works for me especially if it is unrelatable, but there will be someone that works for and it will will be hilarious as they never thought about it in that context he frames it in.

Sebastian is one of the more entertaining guests you’ve had. I first found him on a Stern interview maybe 5 years ago. He was so interesting and funny but not in a performance way. I sometimes enjoy these guys more (Conan definitely included) when they’re having a casual conversation. You get to see the real person and they’re as funny or funnier than in a huge performance imo.

I don't understand that comment, but allow me to say idc who you are but I care about how you honed your talent & Sebastian Maniscalco honed the hell out of his talent. You tell us a lot about the Sicilian culture & I don't have to go to Sicily. But where I'm from & grew up I knew alot of Italians from Palermo, Rome and even Sicily so Mr. Maniscalco's comedy is too hilarious because I know exactly why his stand-up is so damn hilarious. Believe me for better or worse my culture is so relatable believe it or not!

I love Sebastian! I think that this battle he has should be looked upon as an asset. He is wrestling with still being respectful of where he came from, and those lessons his father brought . I had Norwegian grandparents and we were not allowed to throw food away. His inner battle is knowing that he shouldn’t be being wasteful and ungrateful… i know some that have become so wealthy that they have no respect for the everyday routine of not wasting food, recycling, etc. Thinking of everyone, not just the self… respectful, purposeful life. Warren Buffet lives a very modest lifestyle, not a glutton. Live and give!

his dad was 15 when he came to the US, so the dad is more american than he is italian,while still having the basic language as a base... sebastian on the other hand, is not italian.... as far as i know he does not speak the language, and has not spent any substantial impactful time in italy either.. so, it does not matter where the family came from.. fine for comedy and stuff, but it is so weird he says ' we' when referring to italians.. all of these descendents from immigrants referring to themselves as being the same as the people that arrived there is just nonsense.
@sechay9328
@sechay9328 Жыл бұрын
@@luciaceba4640 15 is pretty late in life to fully shed your roots let alone learn a new language and assimilate culturally. I assure, his Dad was most definitely more Italian than American, especially since immigrants tend to move into similar communities and maintain them. I agree that it's nonsense that many Americans cling onto Euriopean ancestral roots as a mark of cultural pride when they couldn't be more foreign to those points of identity but in his case, I buy this. Also, I'm sorry I felt the need to type all those words.
@luciaceba4640
@luciaceba4640 Жыл бұрын
@@sechay9328 the whole point of a comment is to have the need to write :). in any case, with his dad, it is true a large base is going to remain, given he went to school in country of origin, but the older one gets, the less relevant that becomes.. first 15 years italy/sicily vs let say his dad is in his late 70's ( i dont know).. those first 15 would have been very relevant in the first 10 to 20 years after he came to the USA, for sure.. but once he has a child, that deludes immensely, you eventually get better and better at English, but not better at italian/sicilian.. so the level stays at that of a 15 year old, and gets worse if you use it less and less..; and if the dad went to school for his remaining years ( dont know if he did), collage or whatnot, that also deludes it more... personally, born in romania, to romanian parents, left to belgium when i was 3.. returned every summer to romania from the age of 7 till 12 or so ( i think), learned the language at that level, but never went to school in romania... left belgium at age 25 to argentina... due to learning spanish, my (basic) romanian is now gone, ( speaking at least, i can still understand it well enough).... even if i stay in argentina for the rest of my life, i will for sure keep most of my belgian mannerisms, accents, thinking, and won't consider myself Argentinian, nor do i consider myself romanian. but i do notice i am losing some of the belgian ' ways' both in language, and character, and become more adapted to the local area here. it wont completely go away, but it for sure has deluded some.

Maybe compliments and constructive criticism aren't everyone's cup of tea here, but I can't help myself. I've been thinking about what Sebastian Maniscalco shared, and if I've got it right, he seems to be navigating the tightrope between humility and confidence. It's fascinating-this balance isn't something everyone can manage, especially not with the consistency we see in entertainers like him. It's a remarkable dichotomy, juggling these seemingly opposite traits, and yet, isn't that exactly what draws us in as listeners? This dynamic is the magic that keeps us coming back for more. It fuels the creation of new content and keeps the audience engaged until the very end. Thoughts, everyone? Does this resonate with how you experience the show too?

As an north italian with sicilian grandmother (Messina)the culture of your father seems tipical of many superstitious old sicilian. Anyway better than never relaxing and fake american positivity culture i believe 😂 .
