You understand that when he says it's a joke. I'm starting to understand why Conan has such an almost cult like following. You guys hear this and it actually sinks in to your brains on some level and you actually start repeating in seriousness what he says in jest. Only recently I've realised that's what's caused that mentality in many of his fans.

About 10 years ago, I was the supervisor of the footwear department at REI and a group of retired women came in and asked where the pickleball shoes were. Having never heard of it, I asked them what it was, and they responded completely aghast that I had never heard of it; I kept trying to ask about it, so that I could get them the proper footwear, and they just kept cackling to each other about how I didnt now what pickleball was, and how ridiculous it was that I had never heard of it if I worked in footwear. Getting nowhere with them, I literally had to pull out my phone and look up pickleball to see what it was, and what sort of footwear it required, and when I said "oh, so you just need tennis shoes", they acted like I had just insulted them saying "no, pickleball is NOT like tennis". Consequently, I'll never play that game for fear of becoming just like them.

Conan is my favorite comedian. But I don't think I have enough energy to be Conan's friend. He seems like he needs a lot of attention. I think he'd be a good friend in small doses. Like maybe 30 or 45 minutes, and I think we'd need to work some commercial breaks into that time frame. Also, it would be good if I didn't have to do any of the talking. If it could be Conan talking with other people and I just get to listen that would be great. Also I think if I had a device to control the volume of the talking it would be good too. Maybe even a mute button.

Love that Conan calls out all these fake celebrities. He would call them out live on his show too, back in the day, right to their face and make it awkward, but Conan at some point just stopped giving a sh** about their fakeness 😂 It's too bad because I know Conan sounded genuine about wanting to hang out with Mike Myers more, for example, and Mike kept saying yeah, but even I knew Mike was just being polite.

I really don't think Conan likes people enough "to be friends" with them 🤔🤣 he enjoys them as subjects to observe, diagnose, make laugh, ECT... Imagine that amount of intimate human interaction tires him from any further time with them...

Remember Harrison's Ford's scene in anchorman2 where he talks about the window washer? The bloopers has it. 1:10
