Haitian people and everyone else: Dessalines... Conan:This island...
@trevormiles5852
@trevormiles5852 4 жыл бұрын
I am american, please learn the tragedy of Dessalines. Good man who with the help of Toussaint louverture , Henry Christopher and the population created and took back Haiti from the french. Just like here in the usa walk over the fact that Jefferson and Washington had slaves So does history white wash (no pun intended) Dessalines part in history. He was a good man but power got to him and he became a Draconian ruler who eventually had everybody hating him. He was hacked by the very same people who saved and his body was fed to the pig. LESS YOU THINK THIS HAPPENED IN A VACUUM AND WE AMERICA DID GET AFFECTED.. ( just for emphasis not screaming). This was one of the main reasons we were able to purchase the Louisiana purchase. The french could not defend the territory if the US just wanted to walk in and take it. As it no longer had a military to defend the expansive land. And that is why we have the Creole culture and people in that area.n Land of Dixie was reference to the 10 french dix bill dollar ... Have fun learning and correcting me. All I ask is look at more than once source not just wikileaks. Now you see why it was so funny when Conan kept saying this island. How beautiful is America that it would allow this situation to occur. To have a private citizen and industry stand up and say... he WE are not all full of hate for you. I just so love my country usa. WE are not perfect , but we sure don't look the other way when we know we are wrong.

Americans live on fantasy island, thinking their country is the ''best'' that ever existed on Earth, which it couldn't be further from the truth. Most Americans really believe their country acts with good intentions whenever they invade another sovereign nation, spreading ''freedom and democracy''. That's why U.S. media is very careful not to show anything that might offend the American populace and keep people in the dark about its true intentions (this is both directed at Republicans and Democrats, before anyone says some partisan crap).

You don't do anything about it, you don't call your senator, etc.. If there's only 1-2% american behave like this, then you can call them minority just like ISIS, neonazi, etc.. The intro animation hit the most important detail: How many times the country has had its wealth stolen. When people can't understand why other nations or peoples don't "pick themselves up" out of poverty, it's precisely this reason--wealth and money and profit has been siphoned, stolen, taken through force, or extorted from that place. Wealth is inherited, but so is poverty. So is theft.
@Cryptreaper
@Cryptreaper 6 жыл бұрын
You act as if the US just came in and stole everything. US came to occupy the country because Haiti was in deep debt to America. It was also in complete chaos. It had assassinated/exiled 7, yes SEVEN different presidents in the four years before US occupied it. America came to instill an actual democratic system and constitution and collect the debts owed to America. Once America left again, President Vincent turned Haiti into a dictatorship, rewrote the constitution, expanded his power and crushed his opposition. Haiti was in a relatively good state when America left, but reverted back into a dictatorship once they were gone. So saying that America just occupied Haiti to steal it's wealth is false. They came to collect the debts owed to them and to return order to the country, which was quickly reverted once they left. I suggest you actually look into the history of Haiti instead of letting a late night talk show comedian tell you it. But most people wont because that would be too hard.

I've grieved for Haiti for a long time. I know what we did there. I was still active on another YT channel when the earthquake hit, but when I saw that only one person I knew commented about the earthquake, and that nobody was even thinking about it, that's when I really lost interest in continuing. I stayed with the story about Anaika St. Louis being trapped in rubble. She was eleven years old. Her leg was trapped, and they couldn't free her right away. It took about two days to get her out, but it was too late. They took her to one hospital, but they couldn't give her much help. She either died at the second hospital, or along the way to get there. It was so hard for her dear family, and I remember how hard it was for Ivan Watson to report the story. While she was still trapped, he was not far from her, and had to stop for a second to collect himself as she cried out in pain. I'll never forget that precious child. She was so brave and strong. And Trump had the the vile temerity to call Haiti that ugly name. I said earlier today that they ought to take his official portrait and hang it in an outhouse, then bury the outhouse. And I meant it.

What do you mean haiti is still a paradise it's just the food is a bit different and the water is red. Oh and the screaming as people are thrown into mass graves. Leave it to Trumpers to demean the local costumes, amirite???

This is awesome that you went to Haiti I have been a missionary in Haiti for 10 years and have not been able to go back. It is great that you show Haiti in a good light. That is my family since my wife is Haitian. Love the show.
@DEO777
@DEO777 6 жыл бұрын
a good light? Did you watch or listen to more than 15 seconds of the video?!!! They showed a hostile woman blaming Americans for the condition of Haiti as if Americans are the ones throwing "trash and garbage in a lot of places" (3:32). Conan also went into a lot of detail about how corrupt the haitian governments have been. Conan also said Haiti has been destroyed by an earthquake and disease. Conan also said Haiti has been dealt the worst hand in the western hemisphere. how is any of that "a good light"? It sounds like you just wanted an excuse to write a comment so that you could boast about being a missionary. If you knew the bible, you wouldn't be boasting (Matt 6:3).

Hakim Bey it's as Trevor Noah said in his book: "When you make the effort to speak someone else’s language, even if it’s just basic phrases here and there, you are saying to them, ‘I understand that you have a culture and identity that exists beyond me. I see you as a human being'"

@@saeedvazirian Don't doubt it. Try it for yourself (and I mean seriously give it a genuine effort, not half-ass it). In almost every case, you'll see people's eyes light up when you make an attempt to speak their language. From my experience, the only people (generally speaking) who don't respond with appreciation are English and French speakers; they almost expect you to speak their language, even if you don't.
