I will agree with you on that point. The game is as balanced as it can be considering how capcom likes to approach "balancing." You'd think that after so many years of designing these types of games that they'd have a better clue as to how to go about creating balanced fighting games instead of kinda throwing things together then selling a seemingly unfinished product that the players basically pay to test for them, and then they don't bother to properly fix the problems we find.

What I mean is you take any top player and if they didn't have one of their best characters they'd get bodied. That's the way it goes until you learn someone new. The top players aren't top players solely based on their characters. The characters do make a difference; however, they're top players because they play the game at a level a lot of us won't ever reach for various reasons. Like them or not, they've earned their positions by outplaying their opponents at some point in time.

yeah he's only been playing him for a short while, but if you have decent execution you can get by on the strength of the character itself until you feel them out. "Ease of use" accounts for a hefty portion of a character's ranking in these "tiers" the pros attempt to create.

Technically, we are both right about some things. There are infinite possibilities though, when mix-ups are included. Teleporting is one way, but if your opponent knows you will come from behind, then maybe front teleport is better. Based on you and your opponents experience, it's a complete guess as to who will succeed. Same goes for grabs; Will an assist hit or will they grab while you sit still? You might see the grab coming, but they fake with a low hit. Timing is everything in UMVC3.

Yea like not many people play much of akuma compared to the amount who play vergil. So its fun for me to see that.

What you're missing is the fact that he just added him to the team for serious play. That doesn't bode well for the future considering how powerful that character is in the right hands (or wrong hands for that matter). Look at the stuff Yipes pulls off with Vergil. ChrisG will learn to cover those "openings", and even though no one is unstoppable, this team in the hands of ChrisG (or any other top player that is willing to learn to execute the strategy as well as he does) will be pretty close.

ChrisG is only as good as his opponent is bad. TA Predator doesn't seem to know when Vergil isn't attacking, so he instead waits under Doom's lockdown missiles.

At least he got to kill ChrisGs Morrigan, that must feel a lot better than a repeat of match 1... & for all the hate, at least they commented on what was happening in the match, not twitter etc, but actually what's going on in the game.

The only thing boring about these matches is ChrisG always winning. You can usually tell if he'll body someone with no effort or the other guy will end up putting up a good fight. Only the best of the best can stand toe to toe with him, and those players aren't Predator or RayRay.

But to answer your questions: Yes. I know that it applies to every game, and talking about intangibles is totally fine for anyone with enough intelligence to comprehend such things. And YES it's fair. If CAPCOM allows it to happen in the game then it is fair. EVERYONE is allowed to do EVERYTHING that ANYONE else can do. Do I think they've made wise choices in what they allow to happen? Not really, but despite how busted the game is, I (as well as many others) still think the game is fun.

Online play is irrelevant to this discussion. The important tournaments aren't held online. EVERYTHING is a copy of something somebody else has already been doing (unless you created it yourself, and even then there aren't infinite possibilities in this game). I will agree with you that Doom is the key to all of this (but that's the way it is with any strategy with an assist involved, that's the whole purpose of assists in the first place: to make things possible that otherwise wouldn't be)

What rules could there be? Rules are made by the players. You can teleport behind me, but that doesn't make you safe. You can jump all you want, but that doesn't avoid anti-airs. In other words, I can control your every action and force you to think when you are safe. Same with Chris G; he pressures people to block, and then rushes in for the kill. It's called pace. Once someone someone falls into the enemy's pace, it could be game over, unless a comeback is made.

Are you actually comprehending the words that I'm typing? The players don't make any rules. THEY DIDN'T PROGRAM THE GAME. The players must follow the rules of the program. That's how programs work. Anything being done in a program that is contrary to the programmer(s)' intentions is called a BUG. You can't control anything outside of what inputs you choose to make (or not make) for whatever reason without changing the programming code. THAT'S IT.

No, it's not a contradiction, because a lot of what people are able to do in the game are because of design FLAWS. What I'm saying is capcom has failed to design and balance the game properly. To say the game was balanced would imply that everything that happens in the game is completely intentional; however, we know that is not the case (otherwise there would never need to be any updates to the game...EVER. Even capcom has acknowledged the flaws.) TAC Infinites anyone?

At what point in time was this conversation ever about what is or isn't "fair"? That's a different discussion. You should probably re-read the conversation if you want to continue it. (I like a good debate/discussion, and I'm happy to oblige, but at least try not to change the subject without a proper segue.) Here I was thinking we were talking about the strengths of ChrisG's playing ability coupled with the strength of his strategy and how it's only getting better with time.

Okay, you try doing the soulfist reps and calling assists at the same time w/o fucking up the fireballs, yeah its not hard to mash P1, but doing it while doing the fireballs isnt as easy.

But you seem to have misunderstood my statement altogether. If the game is busted, yet everyone has access to all of the same busted shit and can learn to do all the same inputs and tactics, then the playing field is even. It would only be unfair if say ChrisG were the only player allowed to do the MorriDoom nonsense, or Fanatiq was the only one who could perform the Swagneto combos. That is not the case.

Bode well for the future or for people who fight Chris G? His strategy is so overused online it isn't even original. Once someone gets rid of his Doom, then half of his tricks are gone. Rapid Slash isn't a particularly safe move either. It only hits once Vergil crosses behind you; before that someone can grab or attack him out of it.

The motive of this game is to create a consistent team that's cheap as possible so how can you hate Chris G for trying to go that next level? On top of that there's money on the line. You think he's going to fuck around just because people want to see his akuma/ spencer.doom.wesker team? Yeah not gunna happen at a high stakes tournament let's be realistic here.
