What will we find inside this 44-year-old TOYOTA engine?
The #Toyota 2T engine had a production run of just over 15 years - and left its mark on the World Rally Championships with its racing variants.
Its simplicity is possibly what has led to its reputation for reliability, and, 44 years later, here we are doing a #teardown on one that was said to have run when it was pulled out of the previous owner's car.
This #engine may have a surprise or two for us - let's find out.
P.S - Do you want me to restore it? Let me know in the comments section what we should do?

Ive been working in restoring my '77 Toyota Corolla with 2TC engine, so this is a treat to see! Recently had to have a friend do a tear down to replace my piston rings and replace bearings. Cant wait to see yours out back together! Do you have any plans for what you are going to do with the engine when it is done?

I had a 71 KE20 with that engine, I think it was the bigport version. Took it out and transplanted into my 77 KE30. .30 overbore because of scored cylinder wall, Weber 32/36, Cannon Induction Systems camshaft, Clifford header and a T50 speed behind it. Ran very well, had soooooooo much fun with that car. Wish I still had it.

Toyota developed the 4T engine that powered LeMans racers.

When considering how old this engine is and, outside of some obvious things, how good it still looks, it doesn't surprise me that it served as the beginnings of a development process that led to LeMans! Thanks for sharing!

Come from Reddit, you should rebuild this engine, it's very reliable, my car it's a Daihatsu Charmant, and this is the engine, I made a refresh of it almost 2 years ago and it's working like a Swiss clock, an advice, check the camshaft housing, and the corresponding bearings, I found one loose in my engine but fortunately the new one fits perfectly and there was no issues when turning on, great video, I'll be waiting for an update

I just seen your video. tearing down the 1.6 And his Big Brother 1.8 are almost exactly the same I'm a Toyota lover I wanna know When you're putting That motor back together Those are the best motors ever built on the planet even diesels from tractor trailers can't compete with that motor I'll be waiting for that video of putting it back together or I'm gonna call cps Corolla Protection services Lol Over here in America where I live those motors are becoming extinct we need all of them that we can find So we can put them back to their glory

Hey Nick - I'm so impressed with what I saw inside - besides the obvious issues we found. It seems to be one pretty darn good engine and lives up to its reputation as being pretty close to bullet proof, if maintained well. The rebuild: Hopefully sooner rather than later...

Thanks Willie - yes, I didn’t really go into this with high hopes for the engine and was expecting just a regular tear down, but now, considering what the internals are looking like, a more cautious approach is much wiser. Thanks for watching and I look forward to more interactions with you.
