Teardown time for the Yamaha XS400 build! This is always exciting as all of the fabrication work is done and now it's time to tear it down to the bare frame to get parts sent out for finishing. Paint, powdercoat, and ceramic coating are always fun steps in the process. Soon this bike will take its final form!

That would not allow the blended look im after unfortunately. This is extremely thin copper as well so I'd worry about heat

As somewhat of a noob, I’d dig a short on what you/folks do with spent fluids - having a home garage and wondering how to manage old gas/oil/etc. Love to see your creative process on this! 🙏🙏
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds Ай бұрын
Well oil is easy as we can take that to any auto parts store to be disposed of. Gas is a bit more tricky as it only evaporates so fast but I usually keep it in a separate container out of the way. Coolant, still trying to figure that out

@@BrickHouseBuildsthanks - ya, I’d seen a shop with a nice oil burning heater they were dumping their stuff in - probly best for a big high ceiling spot with better ventilation I successfully evaporated a tank of spent gas in an open 5 gallon bucket in my backyard last year but it didn’t feel super pro 😅

@@BrickHouseBuilds AFAIK coolant/ethylene glycol is not considered hazardous waste and has no regulations against disposing into sewer drains that connect to waste treatment facilities -- so don't pour it into storm drains is what I'm saying. Edit: It is poisonous to animals who will be tempted by its sweet taste so do not pour it on the ground because it will kill cats and dogs, etc.

It's so funny how your build timeline has been matching up with mine. Years ago I bought my first GL500 and one of your CX500 engine teardown video's automatically played after an @classicoctane video and it was like the internet gods were on point. Then last summer I randomly fell into an XS400 and like month after that you were talking about tearing into this build. Again divine motorcycle intervention. I cant wait for you to get into that engine as I will be following along and taking notes! Also, how do you organize all your nuts and bolts. I was using ziplock bags but I feel like I'm not labeling them very well. Are more bags better? Seems like I'm always forgetting what goes where. Keep it up!

Very strange how that works! Lots of baggies, storage totes, and photos to document

Looks like another good build. Wondering if brazing the wire tube would work... Question. Wondering if you have e:er delt with Honda z50r. I have a 79 and in rebuilding the carb I removed the emulsion tube. After that I heear they are not removable. Found that ones in kit are smaller. Any input would be great. Thanks and keep up the good work

i was hoping you'd show a way to remove an engine other than just the brute force method, i need to swap out a couple xj650 motors and there's no way i can just lift them in and out of the frames by myself and i'd prefer not to lay the bikes on their sides, when pulling engines that way it's to easy to break cooling fins which just end up causing way more work .......

If I install crashbars to my bike (2007 versys 650), which involves using engine mounts, and then the whole bike vibrates heavily around 4-5K rpm, what does it mean? Can you please give your thoughts on what need to be inspected, even with the case if I completely remove crash bars and vibrations are still there? But no leaks, poor idling or other related problems, only vibrations. Thanks .
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds Ай бұрын
So it vibrates and crash bars have nothing to do with it?
@DmitrySerbin

@BrickHouseBuilds I'm going to figure it out this evening, but vibrations appeared at the same moment when I installed crashbars.

@@DmitrySerbin It could be that it's eliminating any dampening that engine mounts may have had if they were rubber or not. I'm not familiar with those bikes so I really don't know

@BrickHouseBuilds engine mounts has no bushings or other rubber parts. Metal to metal. Let me be more specific. Is there any proper way to align engine's mounting holes to the frame's mounting points? Should I align them perfectly ot let the engine hang and them tighten all up, from your experience?
