"Change" is a song by the British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith, it was the band's fourth single release. It would eventually become the second hit from their debut LP The Hurting (1983) and second UK Top 5 chart hit, following the success of "Mad World". The song also gave Tears for Fears their first charting single in the United States when it cracked the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1983. "Change" was also a big international success, reaching the Top 40 in numerous countries.

I was in high school during the eighties and I remember many of friends because of their favorite bands. As it happens, one of my dearest high school buddies was a HUGE TFF fan. We grew apart, but whenever I listen to a TFF song, I smile and get filled with nostalgia for my buddy and our years together as teenagers.

I love this song. It reminds me of the REAL MTV back in the early 80s. Change and Pale Shelter are my favs Tears For Fear songs. They're the epitome of "cool".

The best part of their music is that they sound English. They're not trying to lose their accent and sound American. As an American I appreciate their uniquely British sound

Yup Roland and Curt are both from the city of Bath in Somerset, Ian the keyboardist is from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire and Manny the drummer was born in Calcutta in India although he has spent nearly all his life in England since a young age and considers himself very much English 🙂

When I was a pre teen and teen I loved The Hurting, and used to have a massive crush on Roland. Now i'm more into the metal, and rock of the 80s, but I still live New Wave music. Now when I listen to Tears For Fears it's usually SFTBC.

I got to see Tears for Fears in 2022 in Sugarland, Tx and Garbage opened for them and man got to say that was one fun concert to be at I was glad to be there great music great times.

There's a big difference between "the Hurting" and "Songs of the big chair" in the fact that Roland was told by the producer "You have a great voice, why don't you write songs you can sing?" Roland took up the advice but ended up writing songs ONLY he could sing. I mean can you guys imagine a song like "Head over heels" being sung by Curt?

Honestly I feel Roland and Curt are just about even as singers. And I think that's what makes Tears for Fears so great. A bit different sounding, but equal talent. And they compliment each other's voices so well.

Roland's voice has a richness and vocal range that Curt just doesn't have. There is absolutely no comparison.

I like the fact that it isn't a one-man show. Both Curt and Roland have iconic #1 hit songs that they've sung lead vocals on. How many bands can say that? The only thing that drives me insane is that they put Curt's face on all the thumbnail images for every music video... even the songs that Roland is singing like Head Over Heels and Shout.

Remember when I first saw the mtv video for this song and thought it awesome. Went to school on Monday and told my classmates about this and not one had heard this song or band yet. Seems they did not become popular in my area until 'Shout' hit MTv. Odd thing is 'Change' is still not considered one of their top hits.
