This film echoes the journey of so many Eritreans who have been held captive, and forced to raise their own ransom amidst torture.
Human Trafficking of Eritreans throughout Egypt and the Sinai is a horrific and much overlooked issue.
The victims, mostly Eritrean (99 per cent), Somali and Sudanese refugees, include many Christians who have fled persecution in their homelands. Most of the victims have been kidnapped from the Shagarab refugee camps in eastern Sudan, home to tens of thousands of Eritrean refugees, and then transferred to the Sinai where they are sold to criminals.
Those trafficked are held by their captors for ransom (From their families and, rarely, the government). Prisoners are tortured daily and in many cases, killed brutally by their captors. The Eritrean people are a tight knit community and so their captors prey on this aspect to gain wealth, because their people will go around the world and tirelessly raise the money for their release. But the vast majority of the ransom money is funneled into black market weapons purchases for Hamas and other terror organizations.
Stories from those who escape tell of the following atrocities -
Sleep deprivation
Organ Harvesting
Plastic melted on the skin
Savage beatings
Water/Food deprivation
Burning of the feet, hands and various other areas
Prolonged lengths of time hung from hooks, chains, ceilings etc
