Rakitha Ruwan Wickramaratne, a renowned young percussionist who has explored the greatest depths of Sri Lankan and foreign percussion instruments, putting together his years of experience and research, unveils ‘TechBheri’. This revolutionary innovation addresses a number of challenges faced by Sri Lankan percussionists. The difficulty in sourcing raw materials required, fluctuating sound quality due to climatic conditions and the complex tuning mechanism are some of the greatest challenges aforesaid. Plastic drum heads that ensure the exact sound quality as well as the texture of a vellum of a traditional drum with a much simplified key tuning system are the introductory level features of TechBheri. Rakitha further anticipates using fiber instead of wood for the body of the drums in the future.
