Picking up solder blobs using the wire instead of the hot iron was such a useful tip!

Once you have a couple of techniques to work with, they just aren't much of a problem. 🙂🙂🙂

Thanks, it's surprising how often we do this technique in the studio, and how easy it is to forget to talk about it when doing training videos

The key is to drag solder quickly so that the solder line stays stable. Use the iron to pick up unwanted solder and move it away. Good luck.

Thank you for sharing your skills! I've learned so much from watching you guys. Just learning and I've run into a bit of a problem. Really hoping you can help. I'm working on a free hanging moon without a background. Can you please advise me how to go about blocking it up given that it's an uneven piece. I can't find any info that addressed this issue. I would greatly appreciate any advice or tips on the matter.

I prer the 1/4" tip in all instances, you'll have to find which you prefer!

What a great resource your videos are! You make it look so easy! I notice you dabbing with a very small solder tip. I think that explains why I have always had such a hard time getting both sides smooth, as you do. I'd love to know, what size solder tip did you use for this video, and what heat do you recommend for finish-soldering? Many thanks!!

I'm using a 1/4" soldering iron tip and the temperature I run at is as hot as I can and I cool the tip when needed by wiping the tip off on the wet sponge.

Guys, what is the brand of your flux? I couldn’t see it in the soldering iron video? Hope your well, many blessings!

We use Novacan flux, but we often use Denver brand flux. Liquid flux is usually very similar. Some brands are easier to obtain than others.

We use 50/50 solder of any brand..it's jumped so high in price we can't get over it. We started doing stained glass in 1983 and solder was $3 a pound back then ...of course, gas was around a buck and bread was 50 cents.

@@GommStainedGlass I know! I often think of my mom paying 50 cents a pound for ground beef....those days are gone. Thank you. do you mind my asking why you use 50/50 rather than 60/40?

Well, it does make your window nicer if you have good soldering. A few bumps and irregularities are okay. I find that when I solder really thin lines I get worse results than when I have a 7/32 wide line. 😀😀😀
