Bandrew can I just say you're an incredibly creative person. You manage to make every single mic test unique and fun to watch, despite the fact that you're trying to test them all in the exact same way. Have all my likes and hopefully this comment will boost your channel beyond your wildest dreams. The first sentence of this comment is the most important one to remember.

I liked the Stellar x2 Vintage, that was my first choice for spoken word, not so much for the instrumentation. However, the X3 was the best for speaking and playing. You did a great job comparing the mics, letting us hear the x3 as a reference. Very thorough review, double thumbs up.👍🏽👍🏽

The more I hear the comparisons with the AT2020, the more I hate it. I'm grateful I never purchased one. Keep up the good work Bandrew. Another very informative review / comparison. I would love to see a "best of" list (maybe per price point) for each application. You often add, "It's not my favorite..." but it would be nice to know what is for each of your standard applications.

Lots of "doing it" "blow it" "nothing weird" "really nice down there" in this review, definitely no weird thoughts in this one. The most important thing I noticed was how dirty your pickups are! Out of these options I think the 440 has my vote for best sound relative to value. Another great review, thanks for all you do!

The more I listen to all these microphone comparisons, the more a appreciate the AT 2020. I got this 100 USD microphone for 60 USD used. That's truly an affordable microphone that easily competes with microphones costing 3x more.

I understand what you mean about the peak. There's a huge presence peak in k67 style capsules at about 10 to 12 kilohertz and in the original u87 they have this complicated feedback circuit to adjust for it that takes into account the sharpness and jaggedness of the peak. In this microphone they use like a really simple eq circuit which gets rid of the overall lift but doesn't smooth out The texture or shape of the peak like it's designed to be smoothed out so you end up with this very specific sound. Lots of mic designers make this mistake

Best mic I’ve ever had. I’ve had the TLM103, SM7B, RE20 and RE27ND. Hands down, the X3 beats them all. You may have to reduce the boomines by switching on the bass cut

Pretty much agree with everything you said here, it is a $350 microphone that records stuff and it sounds good. In the pantheon of cheap XLR mics, you can certainly do way worse. I thought for sure it destroyed the AT2020, which isn't too hard to do these days at any price point. But for $350, it's pretty overpriced imo for a microphone that doesn't really have a unique sound or identity. The LCT 440 has that airy Austrian high end, the WA47jr is dark and warm, the Sennheiser MK4 has the Neumann legacy backing it at a killer price; I just think there's far better and more interesting mics for the same price or less. Hell you could probably find a used KSM32 on eBay for around the same price. KSM32 was my personal favorite mic in the comparison by the way. Great review as always Bandrew!

You finally did this one haha, as always a fantastic review! I found this mic sounded very plain but its still really good. I have this one somewhere in my mic locker, its a very nice sounding mic but... just gonna stick with my WA87R2 😂. I agreed with everything you said about this mic, its a smooth but boring microphone, neutral sounding depending on the use case. Its good but its not a AT4040 or NT1 (the only mics I could think of in the same price point haha), just my personal preference.

Been a long time since I've watched a Podcastage video. I recently treated myself to an MKH 8050, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a supercardioid voiceover mic they want to also use for interior location audio. (Of course it's $1200 USD, and I actually won about 60% of the money I spent on it) I also think you should check out the Oktava MK-012, specifically the hypercardioid version, because it's also a killer mic for its price, but it needs some serious boom skills and a good shock mount for location work. But it's a solid choice for those who can't afford an MKH 8050 yet. They actually sound kind of similar, I think it's the 3K bump they both have, otherwise they're fairly flat. Hard to fault the Oktava for anything when it costs $230 and sounds almost as good as things 5x the price (handling noise and wind sensitivity aside).

Nice to see you in good humor for this one. My take on it is rather different. I didn't think it sounded dark, and the forward mids to me sounded rich. They are obviously trying to emulate a U87, so why not compare it to that? I was really starting to like it, until, as you said, the guitar solo. That highest note really especially jumped out in a cringey way. I think if they fixed that, they would have an outstanding project studio mic. "Happy new fear"? Thanks, WEF and friends.

I'm surprised at how solid the low end sounds. Of all the mics compared my favorite was the X3 followed by the X2 Vintage. I also don't usually care for a hyped high end. It's what's set apart high end microphones like the Neumann U87, U67 and U47 from cheaper knockoffs. I'd love to hear it go head to head with one of the industry standard Neumann mics.

Just looked at the website for TZAP and they market this mic as the more refined x2, which it certainly sounds like. Good sounding mic. I don't care for the sound of the X2 Vintage at all, sounds weird. Yes, weird. (this is why I don't write reviews) AT 2020 still sounds like amateur hour. Lewitt mics make my earssssss bleed. I'd use a Lewitt if I wanted to capture absolutely every nuance of detail in a space, for surveillance, perhaps. Painful. In this price range, NT1 spanks all of them for neutral workhorse utility. And my god, I know that I am crapping a wee bit on a very lauded mic, but if there is one thing about the neutrality of the NT1 that I sometimes don't love, it borders on boring. Well, after going back and forth between the two here, compared to the KSM32, the NT1 sounds like a fricken party. The KSM "Eyore?" Yet more great content, and a year old at that! Thanks Bandrew!
