sometimes it can be hard to decide, but in the meantime, you can always upgrade your thermal paste and get immediate performance while you think about it. I recommend at least 24GB's of thermal paste. I did and I got at least another 15HP and 22lbs TQ.

Later this year will be so interesting honestly. RTX 5000 series, Battlemage, Ryzen 9000 series....I don't need a new CPU atm but a new GPU would be nice. Really crossing my fingers that Intel comes out with a kickass flagship for ARC. I would love for Nvidia to give us more performance, more VRAM and better prices, but I think we all know that just isn't happening.

Wait a few years! If you are around 55 years old chances become real and dramatically rise with time that your new computer might be your last one. If you keep your machine 8-10 years chances are actuarially 10-15 percent and rise a percentage or so per year that it will be your last. If you are an avid gamer but your favourite game is for example Chess a new machine might not be that urgent.
@norie3096
@norie3096 Ай бұрын
@@sezwo5774 it all depends of the games you are playing. If it's 2024 triple A game, you need a recent build. If it's to play StarCraft 2, it's ok even with a 10 years old config
@sezwo5774

@@norie3096 True, but I've yet to see anyone past 50 interested in playing triple A 2024 games. Tech Deals likes to argue financial sense over TIME in investing in a more expensive machine but ignores the fact that for people past 50 or so and who like most of similar age tend to keep their machines longer financial calculations must also take into account the chances, statistical probability, that one is investing in his/her last machine. Pouring too much money may make less sense. Delaying purchase may also be a more optimistic and hopeful course of action! Read: "My likely last computer will not be a 14Gen but an Arrow Lake or even something better." I hope you understand this logic. If you are past age 50 chances are 10-15 percent your new computer will be your last.

I am one of those people with a thirteen year old sandy bridge computer, as my everyday computer. I did build a gaming computer and shared it with my partner eight years ago. I just built a new computer on the AM5 socket, because it had became too painful to use my everyday computer and my partner had taken over the gaming computer, because his computer was just as old. For playing old games they were really good enough, which is what we mostly play, but the bloat of time made everyday tasks harder. I just couldn't bring myself to build with Intel at this time knowing they are going to a new socket, so I picked a lower end AMD chip and will upgrade it when they move on to a new socket. The every day pain became too great for me to wait longer. I am looking forward to playing high end games again.

I got the exact same 12700kf you recommended, paired with a Gigabyte Z790 D AC motherboard, the motherboard was 185.99 but is a newer motherboard from 2024, also got picked up an RTX 3080 Founders Edition from a Friend along with an 850 watt power supply. After selling my old hardware and redeeming credit card points from Amazon, I am sitting just under 700 into the full rebuild. Picked up a few other extras in that price as well.

Just because new stuff releases doesn't mean there isn't an optimum time to buy. There will always be traffic on the roads, it doesn't mean it's a good idea to just step into the road whenever. There are major release cycles every couple of years that come around consistently, around which time it makes sense to plan a purchase.

Microcenter bundles make a 7800x3d build now, tempting. Their 5700x3d for $220 doesn't sound terrible either, for AM4 upgrades. If someone with an 8700k build is on a budget, with decent ram, 12700k and Asrock Z690 extreme is a great option.

Also as far as buying memory remember that you need to check the motherboard list of verified kits. If you are running only 2 dimms you can get up to 8000mhz ddr5 memory up to 64gb on the asrock Nova. If you are populating all 4 dimm slots and you want more memory storage like 128 gb up to 196gb it is going to default to a much lower speed.

I recently upgraded a colleague's pc due support for windows 10 ending next year and windows 11 requiring a platform with tpm 2.0. i7-4770 to a 5600, DDR3 to DDR4, HDD to nvme and motherboard. Total cost price 290 euro's. The performance bump is just staggering across the board. I thought about a zen 4 upgrade, but felt it was a tad costly for what she was looking for and instead settled for zen 3. I am recommending zen 4 for a completely new build, as even though the platform is more expensive, you can go without a GPU if gaming is not the goal. Getting the money back that way. All in all, if you have a PC that is still booting off a HDD, the upgrade to a platform with a nvme drive will absolutely be worth the money.

Upgraded from the 8700k last week without having seen this, though I'm subscribed. I did not need to buy a GPU, monitors, or storage which helped a lot so I was able to splurge in other areas. Upgraded to a 13700k with an Arctic liquid freezer III 360,64g ddr5 cl30 6000mhz. I game in 1440p on an ultrawide. Very much so still GPU bound with a 3080 ftw3 ultra so my frames haven't increased by much. The responsiveness is very nice , and it's cool seeing the CPU load shaders pretty quickly by comparison under pretty low load and temps. I feel though that I could have sat on that 8700k a generation or two longer though. The difference isn't that crazy for a 1440p gamer and I don't have enough of a workload to make use of it entirely. Mixed feelings about my decision.

Have a 12900k & 3070ti, pushing 1080p high graphics and TSR high (no nanite and rt though) getting 120fps in fortnite. I'd love to keep the settings but get as close to 240fps as possible (monitor is ASUS TUF VG259QM - running 240hz & 8bit+FRC). I'm good at games but not world class so I like nice graphics even with the impact to PC latency. Current CPU usage is about 50-60% in game. Do you think if I keep the 12900k and just upgrade the GPU to a 5080 I will get CPU bottlenecking and not make full use of the GPU? I'm not opposed to a whole new build, but if I could get away with just the GPU + power supply that would be good. Your channel is the best! I am assuming ryzen 5 will be 8-10 cores, ryzen 7 will be the full 16 cores and r9 24 cores and r950x 32 cores between 2 connected ccx. So I'm not that hyped for zen 5 due to how amazing zen 6 will be, I think people who upgraded to zen 5 will feel serious buyers remorse when 6 drops. 16 core ccd r7 10800x3d is gonna be crazy, serious endgame material, hope intel can stay competitive vs that.

Nice compare and contrast vid! Appreciate you posting this. I'm running Microcenter purchased $300 NEW on sale CPU I7-6700K (Skylake, 14nm) w/ 32GB DDR4 GEIL Hynix w/ XMP ON (4x8gb sticks. CL15-17-17 D4-3000), RX480 8GB GDDR5 (Polaris), M.2 1TB, and some spinning rust as well, on an MSI Z170a SLI PLUS Motherboard. Air cooled everything. I'll probably be waiting for either the newer CPU's to pricedrop or deep sale, or for super sale of the next gen Intel cpu end of this year or next... Most of my motherboards are intel 1151's, may just get the fastest 1151 socket I7 that'll fit in one of these boards... Working on 1st NAS for use and backups, etc. as well Long time subbed, watch all your vids, keep up the great vids both of y'all!!

Hey, the prices here are a bit different from the US and it's honestly the most confusing choice as of right now between cpus. I can get a 12700KF or 5700X3D for $268 (K version is $50 more), a 13600K for $330, a 14600K for $366 or a Ryzen 7 7700 for $283 but the point is I kind of want to keep as much as possible. The thing is my AIO only fits AM5(Thank you AMD) and my ram only fits LGA1700(Thank you Intel). The next point is maybe I should go with AM4 instead since motherboards are so cheap? I can get a 5950X for $400 + a good motherboard or a 5900X for $285 + a good motherboard but I don't know if that'll be the smartest choice. Although, I'd still be able to reuse both my ram and aio cooler on that. I'll be upgrading to a 3080 from a friend next month. The very last choice is a Ryzen 5 7500F, 12600K and 5700X cost $187 each but I'm not sure about this option since I want to keep it for as long as possible. I've got an 8700K but I know it lacks in newer games and I do have a dual monitor setup(I'll get a third soon as well). I plan to upgrade to 1440P at some point in the future. Sorry for the long text but I'm really confused to which platform I should go for and which would serve me the best. The AM4 platform is the cheapest along side the 12700KF build. Oh, I play a couple of newer games like Call of Duty and Helldivers II. Thank you for reading this and your time. ^^

I tend to upgrade when really good deals &/stock levels are reached. Am at a point, I think I'm set for a while. Maybe drop in upgrade 14700K if issues are solved for i7/i9s for gaming (should also be cheap once core ultra comes out). AM5 would be tempting if AMD comes out with an all 3D vcache 8950X3D or whatever, that would be a dream but it doesn't exist yet.

Depending on your motherboard, you should slot in a 5700x cpu if you want a big boost in usability for your pc. The IPC jump from 1000 series ryzen to 5000 series ryzen alone is huge tbh and 5700x are relatively cheap so worth the change imo. For gpu, it depends. What games are you playing (or wanting to play that your current machine can’t), what resolution are you playing, what frame rate would you like to achieve in said games, how much are you willing to spend. For most people, an RX 7600/6700xt will be more than plenty. If you can find an RX 6800 non-xt still on sale i would grab it if under £380/$400 and then you don’t have to worry about anything ever again.

Hey guys, so I just purchased and built a Intel system using the 14th gen i7 14700k, the Nvidia RTX4080 Super and 32gb of G.Skill Trident Zrgb 6400mhz running on a Asrock Z790 Nova wifi 7. I upgraded from the i7 8700k 16gb 3000mhz corsair memory and a 1080ti. I can honestly say it is a nice upgrade according to benchmarks. As far as gaming, it is a nice bump in fps but other than Ray tracing which really bogs down a card. I honestly could have kept the 8700k 1080ti running another 2 years if I had just upgraded my memory to 32gb instead of the 16 I had. This is running on a 34" 3400x1440p monitor that was running ultra in games like far cry 5 and 6 maybe 75-90. Another thing to really consider that you don't hear much about when considering a new pc is the intel 12th-14gen is extremely hot especially running benchmarks. The motherboard manufacturers are running their own optimized default bios settings that are pushing a 1.4 vcore and my i7 14700k is pushing over 380 watts which no standard aio can cool even 360mm aio's are hitting 100c and having the cpu throttle the clocks down. Intel needs to force their default voltages and settings like amd does at least for the default bios. It really sucks to have such a powerful processor burn itself alive because mobo vendors want to get higher benchmarks or run higher ram speeds. Until Intel and the motherboard partners fix these issues I would say wait and see what is coming out in 9 months. Or check out AMD for the time being. The last AMD I owned was the Phenom 2 lol so maybe check them out. 😢 Intel, fix your sh!+.

Why not turnoff OC and run it stock that way it won’t run with the extra voltage and you’ll still get great performance this would be the easiest But if you want to tinker with it then do a under volt to the cpu and find its stability this way you’re the one limiting the voltage gone to the CPU

Also you never know how pricing and availability is going to be on the new gens, since CPU mining is now a thing. Also if the middle east war heats up you may very well be waiting forever or paying 2x msrp for stuff. You're recommending intel anything, really? Ok bro. 😂 Edit: the x3d variants which gamers want are not going to drop with the rest of zen 5. Theyre going to drop towards the tail end of 2024 maybe even early 2025

@@Ornal64 Irrelevant. What matters is that with the release of Ryzen 3000(Zen2) they moved to 7nm and now 8x cores had the same(actually a bit lower) die size/area as 4x cores did on 12nm, so it meant that it cost them similarly to make an 8 core as it did a 4 core before that. So the Ryzen 5 3600 should have been an 8 core/16 thread, why not the Ryzen 3? Because TSMC's 7nm was more expensive than GloFo's 14nm, but AMD's profit margins doubled in 2019 with the release of Zen2(Ryzen 3000) and RDNA1(RX 5000), going to show that they did indeed start milking us from that point on, just not as bad as Nvidia is and has been for a decade or intel did back in the day before Ryzen.

@@Ornal64 No, intel should have had a 6 core i7 with 22nm and 8 core i7 with 14nm. They didn't because they were milking us since AMD wasn't competitive. That's why they could somehow after all these years give us even a 10 core for the desktop, after saying(lying) that it wasn't possible before that. CPUs are designed with die space in mind first, since that is the real limitation. Keep in mind intel's 14nm(especially 14nm++++) was better than first gen 7nm from TSMC, but not second and third gen 7nm.

Your dilemma as a youtube computer content creator is, your channel flourishes when people upgrade and in the last 3 years or so, tech advances have been more incremental. You want to promote upgrading even though it isn't in the best interest of the public. You guys laughed at the Athlon 860k guy, because “you’re a premium kinda guy and I like premium levels of performance”, so instead your recommendation was to replace with a 12700k. Dude, he wants to help someone out with a Roblox machine. The 860k exceeds the recommended for Roblox. Your viewer may be trying to avoid putting more electronics into a landfill, and may be planning on giving the machine away to someone that can barely make rent. What they needed to be told was to buy a used GPU locally and congratulate for trying to repurpose an old machine. There are MANY use cases out there that don’t need your perceived level of snappiness. If “Tech Deals” is the spirit of the channel, what better deal than minimal cost to meet the use case?
