Please join us for the fourth episode of Technical Difficulties, a planned monthly live interview/chat with other techs and amp designers.
Today's guest is Ted Woodford, a master craftsman whose work and attitude I deeply admire.
If you don't already know his channel, you're in for a real treat:
/ @twoodfrd
The first hour will be interview and story time, and in the second hour we'll take viewer questions.

One thing I notice in Ted’s playing demonstrations is he often plays a little style that fits the style and period of the instrument he’s playing.

I'm amazed how he manages to play decently on a guitar he's just done a left-handed conversion on! Or some crazy open tuning that owner prefers.

I'm not a Luther but I'm a carpenter that plays guitar and I find Ted's videos, so relaxing in the way his content is reminds me of the good old days of KZfaq. Basic and straight to the point no-frills and I love that. There has been a few things throughout the years of watching him that he does with guitars that I have used in cabinet making that have worked brilliantly, and I am so grateful that I stumbled upon his channel.

Few people who watch Ted's videos understand the almost insane amount of skill required to do it. As someone who has tried, and mostly failed to do some of the more simple things, I feel that I have a unique appreciation for that skill. Ted is a rare individual, indeed.

I think anyone would have to build, and repair a guitar to appreciate it. Even then, he always finds non conventional ways of getting things done. Something about the way his mind works, and his diligence.

Ted is perhaps my favorite KZfaq personality for the main reason that he educates me as to what makes guitars sound great and how they are put together. While I live in the USA and unlikely to ever meet Ted, I just want him to know how much I appreciate the information he shares.

Been watching Ted Woodford for almost 1 1/2 years now and I am in awe of how he can make magic with his wood working skills. The guy is 1 of the greatest I ever seen on KZfaq. Intelligent and skillful. Nice to see both of you together here . It's incredible to have 2 masters on here at the same time . Sorry I missed the live airing of it . Both of you have the voices that makes me relaxed to enjoy the video. You both have a calm, serene flow in your work and what is being done with an education instruction.

Hi Lyle. I enjoy watching your videos and I have become a lot more knowledgeable through your in depth explanations. I love the way you don't bs about what's good and what's not. Now, I have a question! I recently purchased a 1964 HW Fender Deluxe Reverb, the re issue, and I'm curious to know if there are any issues that I should be aware of, if you know of any? I bought the amp from a reputable dealer here in the UK and I'm delighted with it. Obviously, if there is something that I need to look out for to maintain its longevity. Thanks for the brilliant videos and wait in anticipation for any info you may have. Kindest regards, Andy

Back when I was a full time cabinetmaker (30 yrs ago), I had the chance to work on a 200+ yr old Empire style table card table. The wooden finger hinge required repairing. I totally chickened out of working on the table and refused. Today, I might, but in hindsight, I made the right decision. FWIW, (holds up hands), I still got ten fingers.

For fretboard hydration I use mineral oil from the drugstore, the same type used for laxative purposes. It’s very pure, clean, and cheap with zero odour. A dry fretboard will drink it up and any excess can be absorbed with a paper towel or cotton cloth. It also helps to lift off any finger garbage left behind.

Ted and Lyle are masters of their crafts, no doubt. What impresses me about Brad, is how he can fix a cheap solid state amp one day and reset the neck on a Martin (using his espresso machine for steam!!) the next...like some kind of repair savant! All three are impressive, capable people.

In response to JD S's qustion about repairing a fret with solder, I have used solder to mend a dent in a fret before. It's a perfectly suitable short-term repair, but is absolutely not a long term solution because the lead is just too soft to hold up for long. Got a gig in an hour? Flow some solder into the divot, recrown that area with a file, sand, polish and go to your gig. It should hold up until you or your luthier can replace that fret.
