Thanks, I am waiting for delivery of my first set. Idea - make a photostat of an old black and white photo onto watercolour paper and colour it like you would do an old photo.

This is a great video! I have a 15 set of neocolors that I absolutely love- they get a lot of use, but I had never even thought about using things besides water to activate them!! Genius, I'll have to give it a try

Great vid, Peta!! I love my neocolors. I was especially excited to learn the tips with clear gesso and using them on glossy/collage paper!! Wonderful. I will most certainly give that a try!! Thanks for sharing and teaching!!

Another tip is to sharpen the Neocolor into a half pan. Add a drop of water and use it like acrylic paint. The shavings don’t go to waste.

Excellent video I have a set of the neo 2 So versitile One thing I like to do is lay down colours down on a scrap piece of rough water colour paper in patches to use as a pallet You can take that pallet with you when your Journaling away from home!

Just got my first set of neocolors last month (84 set). This was such an informative tutorial and I am excited to get into the studio and play with them. I also have portfolios and a set of lyras that I will be experimenting with. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of the information. I have been terrified of ruining or wasting them, but now I feel good to go.

Try to get the 126 set now no way. I don't know if it is the Pandemic and their production is off or they just decided they don't sell. At the current time the 84 set sells for going on $230 CAN.

You have given me ideas for other coloring media, as well as watercolor crayons. What happens when you alcohol or other solvents?

similar results if they are wet to when you use alcohol in watercolour or inks in a painting. creates resistance in the areas it's applied or dripped. i don't tend to use the same solvent i use for my prismacolour pencils on the crayons as they are water soluble.

Love your video's have neo2 can u recommend a pernent blk marker that i can outline my drawings that's waterproof not posco markers it tears up the paper I need Blk & white.

I use a ink pen by Jane Davenport with a waterproof carbon ink. There are mainly permanent ink markers on the market, it’s about researching permanent waterproof ink before purchase that’s really the important step. Sometimes i use dip ink with a glass nib. Depends on the paper and the project.

yes you can frame under glass. they are just water activated.

Thanks for this great tutorial. You answered a number of my questions about them. I must admit I absolutely love Neocolors. It's mportant to know Neocolor I are not water soluble. Neocolor II are water soluble. The tins look identical.

+Redroo11 yes and for that reason I only have the neo II's. I'm a water soluble media gal and just prefer products that interact well with water so they are a perfect fit for me

i've found that the lesser costing brands that if i color some on my craft sheet from ranger i think, or a pallette u can wet and color with no crayon marks , if i missed u saying this i apologize i'm attempting multi tasking lol

lol. yes i show using that method a lot but sometimes you want to draw rather than paint straight away and it just shows which ones are more water soluble

If you rub a little cold acrylic wax on your pages, they won't stick together. I did all my journals and love it!

yes i use a furniture wax for sticky pages but i tend to stay away from sticky products now

Have you ever tried Inktense pencils and blocks. I'm wondering how they compare. Also, as I work in fibre and fabric, I am wondering if will neocolor run if washed or wet? Is there anyway to fix the colour?

+Aaron Zeghers yes I have both. They are not as creamy on paper as neocolours and more like water colours. They are permanent when fully water activated and then fully dried though. As far as neocolours on fabric I wouldn't use them. Nothing I've added AIDS in water fastness for them. Inktense you can use but make sure it's crayons on wet fabric and then dried thoroughly. The inktense must be fully activated or it will wash out in the first wash so I've found

I need to know how to seal Neocolor after I put them into my art journal?

it depends what you are doing with them. are you water activating them? if so then you dont need to seal if no more work is to be done and you want that layer to remain unchanged. neocolour 2 crayons do not become sticky in themselves. if they are combined with other products this may change. I tend to think of it this way. if you use a workable fixative to seal,. eventually it will break down. maybe something like a spray satin varnish will seal. ive used that as a way to seal layers before in journals as well. you have to let it dry for a while to allow the varnish to cure but if it helps then it's worth it. i've never had to seal my neocolours in my journals of themselves.

What paper do you use with these crayons? Does it make the paper bubble up like water colors do?

I have used them with lots of different papers. it's the water you use to activate them that may cause a thinner paper to buckle. i use mixed media paper or water colour paper with these unless i'm activating them with acrylic paint or matte medium which have lower water content.

First, thank you for the great tutorial. I bought some Neocolor ll Aquarelle water-soluble wax pastels. Are they the same as the ones you are using in this tutorial? And could you tell me what the differences are between the crayons and wax pastels. Thank you K

Do you by any chance know how well these work with oil and wax based coloured pencils? I'm a coloured pencil artist and have been looking at these for a while now to possibly use as an under-painting to speed up my art process, if you happen to know how well coloured pencils work on top of neocolor once they're dry please let me know!

Hyogail ok well neocolours are not fabulous to work on top of for coloured pencils unless they are really well water activated. often I leave them a little thicker so they retain a little bit of their waxy texture on the paper. was just using them this way today.
