You've actually changed my life tonight, not even an exaggeration, I was pretty much gna give up on the jdxi, got one in November, I'm only a hobbyist, just wanted to soundscape over decks and vinyl, couldn't really get my hand or head around it, your tutorial has got me making beats like a pro , (imo), I'll be posting videos soon , thanks so much man , top guy , any more technomic, deep minimal tips you know any videos would be much appreciated , thanks man

one thing i’ve discovered about the LFO (which is kinda annoying) is that I usually have to spin the depth knob to neutral and then to anywhere you want for the LFO to actually react and kick in. I guess that’s the price we pay for fake analogue. I love my jd-xi though, it sounds amazing.

I commend you for this, and definitely encourage folks to get busy with hardware as often possible. I am 100% DAW-less, and in fact leverage ths Xi quite a bit-- have the A and like the i better (as a workstation). My only feedback on the Techno side....I just encourage you to not overthink it so much Just lay your sh*t and keep it moving. I know how tempting it is to make everything "perfect" but there is a sense of charm in the imperfect Techno beat (at least IMO). It's a hell of a synth though. I own a gang of them (I've had a Model D since 76) and the Xi is one of my TF. Great job again. Keep it uo!

Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial dude , i have subscribed incase you make more genres. Might be a good idea to use manual focus when making videos like this as the video is slightly blurry on my TV. Looking forward to the next JD-XI video

Thanks bro. I used manual focus, however I recorded this video with a webcam that doesn't perform too well in low light. As this channel grows, I will invest in a more professional camera. There are some more electribe 2 and JD-XI tutorials coming up. Genres will mostly be hip hop, electronic music and themes of famous tv shows and films.

I recently got one of these like TODAY! ha. I have no idea what I am doing yet but this video is definitely helping me a lot. Can you recommend a good budget priced MIDI controller for it? I've heard that is a good option for various reasons, the only negative one being that the small keys on the JD-XI can be prone to breaking after some hammer time ha. Thanks.

Thinking of getting a minisynth. This one is so easy to understand!!! The Korg Wavestate sounds great but I don't understand it. Plus it can't do all the JDXI can? Right?!?

Hi man, I saw you have Akai Force as well... how are these two together? I mean... can you jam in a good way with both or if you have Akai force with Jdxi you can do more or less the same than having Akai and a midi keyboard?

Can you put a high-pass filter on, or shift the phase or delay of one of the kicks? The destructive interference when they're added together arguably *un*-fattens it!

Great tutorial! Thanks! Very helpful! One comment: it starts with synthwave music and aesthetics so I guess you like that. Do you play that genre with the JD-XI?

I'm also into synth wave and 80s music, but so far I haven't tried to produce it myself. My next JD-XI tutorial will cover house music... maybe I'll give synthwave a try after that

Thanks. The sequencer is simple but also a little too restrictive. The best sequencer you can get comes with Elektron gear.

I can really recommend it to you if you want sth. tactile to get down quick ideas. Almost all of the classic Roland synth sounds, a four track sequencer and all of Roland's drum machines in one affordable, small and light package under 500 bucks is a real bargain.

It's a fantastic machine with great sounds. However I do feel the need to warm you that it's built fairly cheap. For instance I have an alesis vmini midi controller keyboard that has a better build quality than this. Just something to be aware of if you're hard on your equipment. I love it, just wish it wasn't built so cheap. Just be careful when you're bangin out drums because it's super easy to get carried away when programming drums. I'm just glad I mostly purchased it to make sound patches for my MPC X that's on the way.

This is great, it's really helpful just watching other people build songs with this synth--I bought a JD-xi recently, and love it. It let's you construct musical ideas so quickly, it's pretty amazing in that regard. Have you tried using a separate MIDI keyboard with it? I figure that's the obvious upgrade. I don't mind the mini-keys, but I don't like them either--also another octave or two would be nice. Have you tried pumping MIDI out through your DAW into the JD-xi yet? Was wondering if it will play four different MIDI tracks if they're assigned right (1, 2, 3, 10). The v 1.5 firmware really expands the JD-xi also.

Hey there! Yes it's possible to control the JD-XI with an external midi-keyboard. I use my Arturia Keylab 61 to do so. You only have to change the midi channels on the keylab to play the different parts of the JD-XI. MIDI-Output of all four channels to my DAW (I'm using Ableton) works flawlessly, too. If you want to gain insight into more hidden features, just watch my Still DRE tutorial. Have fun with your JD-XI! It packs a lot of functions at an affordable price.

@@wolfgang_grows Do you have all the Axial, and any of the Ultimate patches? Saw the Key Lab 41 at Guitar Center. It's only around $200 so I'll probably get that soon. The MIDI switching is dead simple. I figured it out by looking at the picture on the box lol.

@@gangofgreenhorns2672 Yes, I have all of the Axial patches. They sound great. The only thing that I don't like is that all the additional sounds that come with the patches cannot be accessed via the big instrument turning knob of the JD-XI. If you want to use one of the new sound presets, you always have to go to that specific new program and start working from there. The Arturia Keylab is great and 200 bucks is a great price, but personally with 41 keys I always feel there is one octave missing.

Which color variant of the JD-Xi is this? It doesn't appear to have as much red accents on it as the standard black and red model?

Hey Brian, it's the original version with a black and white overlay which you can order from Roland for free.

Hey Martin, Interesting suggestion. Why does it need a sampler? I think a drum machine, sequencer, one analog, two digital synths and an effect section for this price and form factor is quite a good deal. This synth was built to get down your musical ideas quickly and get a beat going in just a few minutes. A built-in sampler would complicate things and take away much of the speedy and instant workflow. However, that's just my opinion.

@@wolfgang_grows that's because you can put just any sound instrument or vocal which opens up totally different world. Now you are limited to what sounds are inside which might be similar. Big difference

Who knows which parameter belongs to which MIDI digit? For example: CC12 Filter? CC15 Resonance. So that these parameters can be associated with track automation. Tell me, please!
