As a U.S Navy Veteran I naturally lean toward this side of techware. However, it’s only stolen valor if you wear a patch/ribbon/medal of a rank or position or achievement you haven’t earned. Aside from that, I love this video. However, can I incorporate my blue digital camis (NWU) uniform pieces in my techware outfits? I’m still new to techware as a fashion.

Some of the stolen valor videos are hilarious. I worked at a grocery store before and we had this local homeless dude who would go around saying he’s active duty special forces. He once sat down at the employee break table outside and was telling me some bs about how the 1911 .45 could be “transformed into 19 different guns with 11 different rounds” like nah.

Michael Sterling but thank you though!! and yeah i think it’s a cool camo pattern. Could layer the BDU shirt over a grey hoodie or something like that!!

Mil surplus stuff is just tougher. The Gen 2 level 3 Fleece is basically a North Face Denali jacket but much cheaper. I just recently started trying out some of the ECWCS stuff and I'm a huge fan. To give a little background I'm an avid hiker and I've thru hiked several long distance trails. Most of my gear is ultralight super fragile shit that never lasts long. I think the level 1-3 is bomb as fuck. The level 1 silk layer is ultra comfy and super durable. Better than any of the merino or uniqlo heattech shit I've worn in the past. Level 2 is just like Patagonia's R1 grid fleece but more durable and much cheaper. I could go on, but yeah, it's good shit.

nice! recently I have found some websites and collectors of vintage military and workwear collectors and shops offering either some great pieces for sale or an archive of the cuts and features of those garments. military items often are purely functional without excessive fabric but still with a cut that allows for good enough movement and of course a good protection against the elements. I really like the sweater (thinking about getting this one myself now, since it has long sleeves that i can use without rolling them up), but the insulation piece is also very interesting. There are insulation liners on the market with one side smooth polyester and one side warm fur or fleece, fully reversible. like errolson said multiple times in interviews and talks, especially vontage military and workwear can teach us a lot about design decisions, which is why massimo osti was such an avid collector of military and workwear stuff. thanks for shining light on those 3 garments!

Thank you! One of the reasons why I like techwear (i'm using that term loosely) is generally the style looks forward towards the future EXCEPT for military garments. Like you said, military garments are largely designed for functional use, and there is a lot in fashion that pulls inspiration from the military. I read somewhere that Errolson was contracted to design some clothes for German Special Forces which is interesting. I do love that sweater and since you are slim like me, it should fit very well!

@Corbin: your mind would have been blown if you had gone into an early/mid 80's era Banana Republic. It was all based on various military and safari stuff from around the world. Before Gap turned it into an up-scale Gap. Quote from one of the founders, "...military surplus sold as a proxy for safari clothing."

Military Grade =/= High Quality Military Surplus is probably ok since back then they made stuff to last, but today's stuff is made by the lowest bidder. Keep that in mind when looking for stuff
