Lots of questions about testing fps differences and load times. We will get the windows 10 custom tutorial and iso out then do a bencark comparison for you guys. Also to use the link you will need a torrent client. Bittorrent is quick and easy. Will update the link soon. Finally some people are saying Ms flight simulator needs all languages. And gta 5 will need media player. Will test these out as well and update.

MS Flight Simulator 2020 also requires all the languages according to another comment. This is the problem when you go disabling Windows features. You never know what might need it. But the stuff that's always safe to disable are things like the pre-installed 3rd party apps, telemetry/ads, and VBS/TPM/secure boot.

I remember constantly needing to defrag with more powerful tools than what windows had to offer. I remember modding startup with batch files to run programs automatically and making custom boot logos for XP. It has been a long time, I left windows behind however and now only run it in a hypervisor. good times, also not so good times when xp would bluescreen and then never boot again because ntloader was gone. lol.

well the amount of bloat is actually WORSE now. An OS should NOT have gotten bigger with time, but Windows 11 requires 10x the HDD/ SSD space that XP did back in the day ^.^ why? A TON of bloat!!

Great video, tons of help. As a side note, you might need to add Everything Search tool by void tools. Everything is a freeware desktop search utility for Windows that can rapidly find files and folders by name. I use it to remove malware on customer computers. If you know the name and it is on the local PC hidden or not Everything will find it. It indexes on install and keeps changes up to date as they happen so searches happen instantly with no waiting.

I have tossed the MS search in the trash years ago and have been using Everything since then. There is no speed comparison, unless you want to compare a rocketship (Everything) to a moped. Just install it in your system, then after about 2-5 minutes cause it has to build the initial index, do some searches. Everything shows matches as you type them in and shows everything regardless of hidden or not. It will find a match as fast as you can type it in....
@kubato5054

I have to admit I normally do this for windows 10, but I only stripped out some very basic telemetry stuff for windows 11 as I built a new pc and thought it may be a good thing to wait until windows 11 updates stop making big improvements for chiplett cpu's. I tend to start with the GamerOS preset from the NTLite site and then add back in what I need. I also then run the Chris Titus optimisations via powershell and will normally put on O7O shut up 10+. I will say if you use the GamerOS preset you need to make sure what you are doing as you really strip windows functionality. Like I had to put an offline installer for a web browser on a usb stick to install a web browser as I didn't have edge or internet explorer and also couldn't install winget.

I always enable things like show extensions for known file types and show hidden files and hidden system files, I also enable desktop icons like my computer and personal folder, then add all the folders to the start menu. These are more for my personal use as I like to have the folders easily available and tend to use the appdata folder a fair bit, but the enable file extension for known file types being disabled by default has irritated me since they started doing it.

It was just about time I was feeling the need for a clean install. This debloat came up just in time. Installed it, got stuck on finishing up after restart, let it run couple hours. Decided to turn system off and reboot, it completed and loaded into windows. Not sure if its because of accepting Rufus's default options writing ISO to usb stick. Ran DSIM then SFC, on an elevated powershell, it fixed some files and then I rebooted. I also used the the link and code "BFTYC" just to have a clean activation. Running flawlessly so far, thanks!

It is so nice actually having a computer on our phones . I remember the old days - if we could only get the driver for the ethernet to work and then we would be off to the races . I don't know why most motherboard Cd's didn't include it - but as soon as you got the internet going - you could then update all the other drivers and check the device manager to find out what was still missing . The operating systems are so nice nowadays to include a different variety of drivers and that is just one reason why this is such a good idea . Don't need 50 different languages installed when you only speak one or maybe 2 . LoL ! Great tutorial !

Awesome video again! This is great, but its good for people to know its limitations. Windows changes over time, new drivers come out often too, and this image is static, meaning, you will have to keep making this every few months or every time you install windows if you have a single PC that could be once every few years, so really it isn't as useful as you might think. In a work environment I wouldn't recommend it, we have better tools for that, like SCCM, which is used to deploy an image and has the ability to add drivers for many types of computers and can make it auto-detect the correct ones. Software also deployed through it as well as updates and this can be done on existing computers too.

Yeah there's an option called presets to re-apply settings to a new image. Also this isn't meant to be a dynamically updated ready to rumble ISO, more of a starting point that does a lot of the work we would do anyways for any setup. This jumping off point will still download drivers and updates from Microsoft automatically.

Ah yes, the old NTLite. I made custom ISO's for years but in reality you don't gain any performance and only headache / time lost from testing / compatibility. These days I just use LTSC Enterprise versions and change various settings / group policies to turn off Defender + Spectre / Meltdown etc. I haven't finished the video but for instance at 6:00 , removing Internet Explorer will break certain games that require those dependencies. If I recall GTA V would break (might have been Windows Media Player) but yeah, just an example of compatibility issues. You're better off disabling these things rather than removing them.

Xbox core might be required for DirectStorage, which will be more relevant soon as more games use it to get instant load times. Only game supported now is Forspoken but we will get more for sure.

I really enjoyed watching the video and I even did these modifications to my own windows install. The only thing I couldn't figure out was how to install the applications that I'd added in the last step (I'd added chrome setup and inspectre). Also during the installation, it still asked me to send microsoft only required data...

Omg I’ve been searching for you for past 2 days looking for your video on how to make windows 11 leak version installer, I’ve subscribed so I don’t lose you again... quick question, won’t windows update just overwrite and re-bloat the debloated version? That’s what’s always happens when I’ve installed windows 10 Lite etc keep up the good work!

Excellent, thank you. So if we wanted to add back something, say like virtualisation, do we have to use NTlite on your ISO or just add it back in a running version on the PC with add apps and features? Thanks

If you plan on using any kind of Voice recognition You may want to keep Cortana. I am keeping it because I plan to try and build a personal assistant and most of these seem to use the Cortana components now, I prefer to just turn it off Manually But thats just me

Are you gonna make a video on further optimizations once you have installed Windows?

We already did it was a 40+ minute video, this guide is to take those optimisations and bake them into the installer so you dont have to do it on every single install. It'll do them automatically

@spusuf

yeah, we're also doing a windows 10 one first then we'll put a stock 10 vs stock 11 vs customised 10 vs customised 11
@griffin1366

@@spusuf I feel like most of the gains on the customised one would be from Defender / Spectre + meltdown. If you could do Stock, then disable those 2 things and do a Stock (modified) as well. I feel like a lot of these "custom ISO's" prey on people because of that.
@spusuf

@@griffin1366 Our ISO didnt disable Spectre or Defender, but only bundled the tool to disable Spectre if people wanted to manually do that. We will leave it as it is for testing

I wonder if a custom ISO can be used to upgrade an old Windows setup. Might be a nice way to update and slim down at the same time.

I prefer using Windows ADK. Though it is more difficult to do the advanced stuff unless you are comfortable with command line. Seems like this utility automates some of what ADK has been able to do since Windows XP.

Ah I remember NTLite from XP times. Used it to make my 84 MB XP iso that after install took only 25 MB RAM but that still wasn't complete brick. It even was able to connect to the internet.

I use to uninstall all the xbox crap on 10 but found out windows liked to pop up asking what program to open a file with and turned out windows needed xbox crap because of that pop up. IDK if 11 does the same, haven't tried uninstalling it but my guess is it does since it is 10 with some more garbage added.

It's funny. I don't install Windows 11 on any of my systems for sale. Still regularly get messages from customers wanting to know if they are loaded with 10 or 11 because they want to avoid 11.

Adding some windows updates like the 22h2 cumulative updates are a must for me as they always seem to be a pain to get to install in windows via normal update, and I need that right click task manger in the task bar, just like its been by default for years. I know many say windows 11 is like Mac OS clone, but it makes me think more of the original iPhone, as in it is supposed to premium but removes basic everyday features that have been the norm for years and require you to use third party apps and hacks to get that functionality back.

Really useful video. I don't think the language step is needed though? During Windows installation you can pick the language and it will only install that, and then you can download/install languages from within Windows Settings.
