my dad got so mad when Tatanka sold out to Dibiase. he told me to take the Tatanka poster off my door and everything. he knew it was all staged of course but that’s the power the characters have 15 or so years later he had a roommate who used to wrestle and the guy told me wrestling Dibiase was hard because he was so nice to him that he could barely even pretend to hurt him

I remember clear as day watching this on television in my living room with my parents when I was just a kid and my dad laughed himself silly and my mom started in "oh that poor thing!" And now I'm listening to Ted talk about it 30 years later. Where does life go and how does it go so fast.

As an adult looking back on the wrestling from when I was a kid, I can now admit the million dollar man was the best character ever invented. Ted was a great athlete and an even better actor.

That's awesome that Dibiase ran into the kid as a grown man and that he attended college on a basketball scholarship. Shaun learned from Dibiase to do the job right and get paid.

It can't be. Until, maybe all of this is forgotten. I'm talking hundreds of years in the future. It could all come around again. But, with all we know today, about the business.. the magic is gone. And, the characters, the talent, the whole paradigm has shifted. Wrestling isn't what it used to be, and, as you say, probably won't be again anytime soon If ever.

I ran into Ted at an airport. He was standing alone and I simply walked up to him and told him I grew up watching him and it was a pleasure meeting him. He just smiled, shook my hand, and thanked me.

When I was in high school I lived near DiBiase...I even cut his grass and he paid me $35. Wonderful summer 😂 Mortal Kombat just came out on Super Nintendo! I also went to school with his son Ted Jr

If I was that kid and I recognized Ted before I talked to him, I'd want to get my hands on a basketball. Then when he's talking about finding a car, I'd be like, "Well here's what I'm gonna do (pick up the basketball) and say"if you can dribble this basketball 15 times consecutively (without missing), I'll get you a car."

That's a really cool story. A guy who I watch on youtube who is like in his early 40s said he sounded that clip to his daughter and she just instantly took a disliking to The Million Dollar man b/c of the basketball segment and if he Ted still gets heat over that to this day, then it's still pretty effect almost 30 years later lol

Man watching wrestling as a kid in the 80s was rad. It was all so real. The characters were bigger than life and all we knew of them were the characters. Best time for wrestling ever.

Ted D was great, loved watching him. He could cut a promo perfectly and one heck of a wrestler as well. My top four when I was a kid was Ted D, Rick Rude, Undertaker, and Mr. Perfect. All could cut a promo so well and had great wrestling abilities to boot.

Ya ok n my favorites were barry Horowitz BERSERKER Brooklyn brawler and the genius...c'mon bro...only thots liked rick rude ..Undertaker was just too boring n every person in the arena n watching on tv wanted to smack Ted n perfect..so tellin me as a young child u were rooting for those 4 is like telling me in 2003 u knew the 9-7 giants would run the nfc playoffs n go on to beat the undefeated Patriots in 2007...ya maybe once it all happened some clowns said that but thrs no way those were ur 4 favorite guys..more like ultimate warrior Texas tornado big bossman n the bushwackers lol

I used to sneak out and ride my bike to the landing strip titty bar right by the Detroit metro Airport when they would have events and meet all the wrestlers. I remember Ted was always really nice to us. I remember him asking where are your parents? Got 5 kids sitting outside of a strip bar at midnight 😂. We snuck out. We would plan to have a sleep over in my buddies club house and ride our bikes uo there. Thise were great times! We had adventures as kids in the 80s . No video games, just adventures in the woods. A bunch of kids witg rambo knives we bought at the fleamarket or throwing stars. Damn whar a time to be a kid.

@@arthuridis we were very lucky. Even though it's the Detroit Airport it's in a small town. So we didn't have to go down dangerous streets. It was all back trails through the woods so it was all adventure. But I bet my life nothing has changed and if you're ever in Michigan by the Airport after an event the dudes will be at the landing strip lounge.

Lol, no. The Flair - Steamboat matches are better than anything Ted ever did. He was a good worker, obviously knew how to draw heat easily, but he wasn't even close to Flair.

@@r.boss5373 If you think Flair is overrated, you really got no clue about wrestling. And no, his promos weren't 80% the same. If anything, he was one of the few wrestlers who had a wide variety of styles. From being completely batshit crazy (especially in the late 90's), to being a loudmouth egomaniac to being a subdued, respectful worker (1989, Steamboat) to being afraid for his life (Starrcade 1993, Flair acted as if he was about to get killed by Vader), he had a good range of different, fitting characteristics. That made him great. On the other hand, Ted DiBiase indeed always did the same promo. "I'm rich, you're not, hahahahaha". Of course it worked, but he was very one-dimensional. Maybe you should look up some old wrestling, you definitely need to learn a thing or two about it.

@@ShadowAngel-lt8nw seeing I probably watched triple the amount of wrestling u did..I literally have vhs box sets n over 200 home taped vhs of wwf from 86- 2000...flair definitely said the same shit all the time..n his promo was I'm rich n ur not i got the bitches n the jets n a watch..ppl are so afraid to tell the truth cuz the mass amount of zombies like u jus go off what the tilde instead of actually watching..I literally can't think of one flair vignette or promo that is memorable cuz after hearing the same lines over n over I stopped csring

I remember watching that spot live when Dibiase did that. Still to this day I think that was the best heel spot ever. People HATED him, and that kid couldn’t have done it any better.

When I was a kid watching WWF.. The Million Dollar Man skits were very clever, and I was believing in them and thought the man was legit 100% cruel.. Yet at the same time, me and my friends got big laughs from his antics on TV especially that damn laugh. Very entertaining character for real.

That was epic. I remember when he did that, we were kids and my brother showed the skit to our grandmother on VHS, she was really bothered by it apparently, she later told our dad about it and he had to explain to her that it wasn't real. He told us about it afterward. 🤣🤣 There was also the swimming pool skit where he pays the guy to kick all the kids out, and the one where he offers a kid money to do some number of pushups and then puts his foot on the kid's back so he can't make it, and then doesn't give him the money. 🤣 "Do you think he deserves the money, Virgil? Well neither do I! Hahahahahaha

Yeah i was there that night in battle creek michigan at Kellogg arena in 1987 when rvd came into the ring and kissed his foot i was 8 at the time!!!

Ted DiBiase did such a great job. I HATED him so much when I was a kid. I hated how he thought he could just buy whoever and whatever he wanted, and I always wanted to see him get humbled so he would know that money wasn't everything like he thought. Now that I'm an adult, I can look back and see just how great of a heel he was. He did such a great job making everyone hate him. I now appreciate how good he was at being a heel and he's now probably the wrestler from those days that I admire the most now.
