I am a true crime enthusiast and also have a background in mental health service provision and, later, law. I saw you on @ShaunAttwood a couple of times and very much appreciate your content. I am a subscriber but have not yet had time to review some of your other videos, but will take the time to do that. Thank you for this content on Ted Kaczynski, but I believe there is a glaring omission in your analysis that might benefit the video overall to go back and edit and include. During his tenure in undergrad at Harvard (and I think he may have gone to Harvard at a very young age) he was an involuntary, un-consenting, unknowing subject of LSD and mind experiments undertaken by his immediate supervisor and mentor who was working in tandem w/the CIA. This study was called MKUltra. Your video is completely devoid of this important and, most likely, devastating part of Kaczynski's history. Not only was he subject to unknowing ingestion of LSD, but there was a mind-play component that was carried out by his "mentor" and probably the head of the Department (I don't know all the details). Without acknowledging and including this history in your analysis and potential long-term effects of not only LSD on the brain but unknowing, un-consenting exposure to LSD in a mind-play environment, it seems that there is a big gaping void in your analysis of how Kaczynski actually operated in his adult life.

Most of what you claim is outright false. Kacynski indeed was the subject of an experiment at his university, conducted by a psychologist who was involved with the MK Ultra projects. However, the particular experiment Kacynski partook in was not MK Ultra, and he was not unwilling. He was free to end his participation at any time. According to his brother (if my memory is correct), Ted found it unpleasant, but he refused to end his participation because he took it as a challenge to his will. Also, there was no LSD used. No drugs whatsoever were used on Ted or any of the other students participating in that particular experiment. The experiments involved the psychologist cruelly criticizing the ideas of the subjects, trying to humiliate and make them feel stupid.

I agree with LC. That's a large part of him that was missed. You should also read his manifesto. Because the way he went about getting his message out was VERY wrong and no can disagree with that. But he is also right about a lot of things. Just a horrible way of telling people. If his brain hadn't been scrambled he could have made a huge impact on our world.

Kaczynski got technological slavery right but why would he act so strongly on a cause that wouldn't have effected his lifestyle? It's weird how he went through all the steps to be untraceable yet in the end his personality came through on paper and he was recognised. I don't mean to be an ass and the video was great. But I found the fast edit style made it a little hard to absorb all the information. I need a few seconds to reflect on the information and ideas.

Thought-disordered manifesto? Ranting, raving, rambling? Did you even read it? I'd appreciate some specific references to the text that indicate disordered thinking. Dr. David Skrbina, professor of philosophy at University of Michigan, thought Dr. Kacynski's ideas were coherent enough to include them in his book, The Metaphysics of Technology. He also thought the man was psychologically sound enough to have communicated many letters with Kacynski about his ideas after he was incarcerated.

That was great! I'm wondering now where the dividing line is drawn between a personality disorder and a mental illness, what the criteria are, or if it's more a matter of severity on a spectrum? Agreed - His manifesto had (has?) some very applicable ideals regarding technology. It's too bad that he didn't find a better avenue to try to get through to people. I bet he was perfectly capable of writing a genius book, and after his competent editor did away with the ramblings, he could have achieved the best seller's list and been chosen for Oprah's book club, for example! 😁 Think of how many people he could have reached with his theories and predictions! My next question is - do you think his schizophrenia in particular was with him at birth, or could his brain development and wiring have been disrupted by his social and emotional marginalization and exacerbated by his superior intelligence?

Bi-Polar with amygdala damage--dopamine production, and controlled by the mania associated with the insula system. Which could easily have happened due to the rampant LSD and marijuana use in Frisco in the 70s, which itself led to his Bi-Polar mania and depression (and sexual confusion--insula is where one finds sexual orientation). So where his body still produced stress and anxiety (cortisol), but where he had no pleasures or drives (dopamine) to balance out his anxiety, fears, and anger (cortisol effects). Too much cortisol would normally lead to schizophrenia accompanied by too much noradrenaline (which creates the audio hallucinations), but without the dopamine then noradrenaline would not be produced (just adrenaline). The other guess is he was Bi-Polar before he went to Berkeley, but where before going there he was eating traditional American meals--with lots of sugars and dopamine producers which kept his amygdala semi-balanced, but where drug use and/or veganism made his condition worse (most meat by-products are fed with corn--sugars). Berkeley being the center of the Hippy movement in the US at the time, what is now known as the "New Age" movement. Where many "spiritualists" continue to advocate for veganism, drug use, and "fighting against the system." All connected with the insula system...and either Bi-Polarism with schizophrenic episodes. But he was not full on schizophrenic or his manifesto would have had "God" references--where DMT comes into play (also found in the insula system). As dopamine plays a part in noradrenaline and DMT production--mixed with the serotonin, these seem to be missing from the puzzle. So no dopamine...no pleasures or needs beyond just basic survival (the goal of most Buddhist Monks--and New Agers--to "turn on and tune out of society"). By going off and living in the woods, making his mental situation worse--as he would have no pleasures from external events most of us get them from (sex, porn, wanting things, gambling, alcohol, stimulants like coffee and sugar itself). With no addictions and living frugally, he was able to be "content" (serotonin) with his lifestyle, although like most Bi--Polar people he would need to keep his serotonin levels up by having "purpose" (insula--our "virtue" center, concerned with "species" survival vs amygdala--our vice center with self survival as their drives).

I think it's important to separate the issues here. His ideology led him to murder people, and he was able to do this because he had a complete lack of empathy toward human beings. His writings talk about the destructive influence of elitist control over the population in an industrial society, but I always get the sense that he was talking about himself, his life, the pain he suffered as an undergraduate, and the career stagnation that ultimately drove him to despair. Negativism, paranoia, a bias toward hostile interpretation, and all kinds of traits led him to murder. But the observation is correct, that in industrial society we are all retrofitted to be cogs in a larger machine. Still doesn't mean we should be murdering people.

You need not ask what his beliefs about the future... its right there in paragraphs 174 and 175 174. On the other hand it is possible that human control over the machines may be retained. In that case the average man may have control over certain private machines of his own, such as his car or his personal computer, but control over large systems of machines will be in the hands of a tiny elite-just as it is today, but with two differences. Due to improved techniques the elite will have greater control over the masses; and because human work will no longer be necessary the masses will be superfluous, a useless burden on the system. If the elite is ruthless they may simply decide to exterminate the mass of humanity. If they are humane they may use propaganda or other psychological or biological techniques to reduce the birth rate until the mass of humanity becomes extinct, leaving the world to the elite. Or, if the elite consists of soft- hearted liberals, they may decide to play the role of good shepherds to the rest of the human race. They will see to it that everyone’s physical needs are satisfied, that all children are raised under psychologically hygienic conditions, that everyone has a wholesome hobby to keep him busy, and that anyone who may become dissatisfied undergoes “treatment” to cure his “problem.” Of course, life will be so purposeless that people will have to be biologically or psychologically engineered either to remove their need for the power process or to make them “sublimate” their drive for power into some harmless hobby. These engineered human beings may be happy in such a society, but they most certainly will not be free. They will have been reduced to the status of domestic animals. 175. But suppose now that the computer scientists do not succeed in developing artificial intelligence, so that human work remains necessary. Even so, machines will take care of more and more of the simpler tasks so that there will be an increasing surplus of human workers at the lower levels of ability. (We see this happening already. There are many people who find it difficult or impossible to get work, because for intellectual or psychological reasons they cannot acquire the level of training necessary to make themselves useful in the present system.) On those who are employed, ever-increasing demands will be placed: They will need more and more training, more and more ability, and will have to be ever more reliable, conforming and docile, because they will be more and more like cells of a giant organism. Their tasks will be increasingly specialized, so that their work will be, in a sense, out of touch with the real world, being concentrated on one tiny slice of reality. The system will have to use any means that it can, whether psychological or biological, to engineer people to be docile, to have the abilities that the system requires and to “sublimate” their drive for power into some specialized task. But the statement that the people of such a society will have to be docile may require qualification. The society may find competitiveness useful, provided that ways are found of directing competitiveness into channels that serve the needs of the system. We can imagine a future society in which there is endless competition for positions of prestige and power. But no more than a very few people will ever reach the top, where the only real power is (see end of paragraph 163). Very repellent is a society in which a person can satisfy his need for power only by pushing large numbers of other people out of the way and depriving them of THEIR opportunity for power. then in regards to running away he identifies eventually its pointless "Today, however, we are at the mercy of organizations, such as corporations, governments and political parties, that are too large to be responsive to single individuals. These organizations leave us a great deal of latitude where harmless recreational activities are concerned, but they keep under their own control the life-and-death issues on which our existence depends. With respect to these issues, individuals are powerless. In former times, for those who were willing to take serious risks, it was often possible to escape the bonds of the family, of the village, or of feudal structures. In medieval Western Europe, serfs ran away to become peddlers, robbers, or town dwellers. Later, Russian peasants ran away to become Cossacks, black slaves ran away to live in the wilderness as “Maroons”, and indentured servants in the West Indies ran away to become buccaneers. But in the modern world there is nowhere left to run. Wherever you go, you can be traced by your credit card, your social security number, your fingerprints. You, Mr. N., live in California. Can you get a hotel or motel room there without showing your picture I.D. ? You can’t survive unless you fit into a slot in the system, otherwise known as a “job”. And it is becoming increasingly difficult to get a job without making your whole past history accessible to prospective employers. So how can you defend your statement that “[m]odern urban society allows one to escape into an anonymity that family and clan based cultures couldn’t”? Granted, there are still corners of the world where one can find wilderness, or governments so disorganized that one can escape from the system there. But these are relics of the past, and they will disappear as the system continues to grow.”

It shows how brain dead and zombie like humans really are, to even allow these things to occur. Blame them all for just standing by and watching the world dying. If God exists, basically all humans will be going to hell for the sins they commit.

Well, why you think that? Sure it is much easier modern days. You can plug in lots of sensors, low powered microcontrollers and lasting batteries from Alibaba to make it better proofed but back then it was all analog and had to last for large distances and surely he did not hurt himself badly. All in mercy of chemistry. Maybe I have given too much thought for this, lol.

@@APsychForSoreMinds welcome to the internet mate! it's not like your fancy doctors office where everyone is sucking up to you. the truth hurts! why do you need other people to validate what im saying? im not trying to 'troll' you here. i actually liked your video, but the forced humour and fake bravado is distracting and annoying. you're obviously an intelligent guy and i'm sure you can be witty at times but keep your focus on the quality of your content and leave out the dad jokes
