Rebecca is a wonderful character: she spends the season trying to be a villain because the alternative is to be a victim and she won’t have that. She wants to be cruel because it would be satisfying but she doesn’t have it in her enough. She ultimately is a good person but one who’s been hurt and wanted desperately to not hurt, even if it meant hurting others. She needed Ted Lasso, who is so committed to not hurting others that it’s hard (but not impossible) to hurt the man himself.
@alexanderguerrero3473 жыл бұрын
I disagree a good person doesn’t want to hurt others at all for no reason other than it’s wrong not because one doesn’t want to be a victim and not want to feel hurt.

@@alexanderguerrero347 well I’m not sure where you’re from but where I’m from good people sometimes are capable of making mistakes and don’t always conform to the definition of “good people” 100% of the time
@bobdole49162 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderguerrero347 You're confusing faultless with good. Good people aren't perfect - but they're at least working towards being better than they were. They still make mistakes, sometimes big ones.

The alternative to being a villain is not being a villain. Being cruel to Ted, Keeley, Higgins, & trying to get the team to fail is not a show of strength. The only reason she changed was because those people were so kind to her, and they were kind to her because, aside from Higgins, they didn’t know her scheme.

This is one of my favorite character introductions in a show. I love how you're not sure exactly what she's all about, or whether you should be rooting for her... but ultimately, even if there are moments later in this season that you hate her, she never ceases to be a joy to watch on screen. Although she does some devious shit, when she *SPOILER ALERT* comes back around it is entirely believable.

multi-award winning "Ted Lasso" - she's the owner of a mid-table football team who wants to take revenge on her ex-husband (who really loves the team) ... by hiring an amateur American Football coach who has never even played a single minute of real football in his life ... because she knows he will definitely lose and get the team relegated at the end of the season. Ridiculous in the extreme .... but then the show takes a series of surprising turns as the cast goes from silly cariacatures to real people thanks to the relentlessly positive influence Ted has on people (reminds me of "Paddington")

'Casual misogyny'. I guess anything can look like misogyny when you script the lines. The comical thing is that they make it an extreme example. I know their are still individuals around like this, but the stuff I hear coming out of women's mouths on a daily basis, and have in my lifetime, are equally sickening. This is never addressed in any narrative, fiction or otherwise. I wonder why.
