Күн бұрынFor sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, the ocean is more than a muse - it's an exhibition space and museum. Taylor creates sculptures of human forms and mundane life on land and sinks them to the ocean floor, where they are subsumed by the sea and transformed from lifeless stone into vibrant habitats for corals, crustaceans and other creatures. The result: Enigmatic, haunting and colorful commentaries about our transient existence, the sacredness of the ocean and its breathtaking power of regeneration.

I am a Grenadian and I have snorkeled over our current underwater sculptures, and yes, it is fascinating to see such 'life' underneath the water. I absolutely APPRECIATE the aim of this incentive and how it has created employment, created a new tourism niche and preserves our natural marine environment. I would love to see them add some structures made in the likeness of actual coral reefs.

+Annemiek Sluijs I don't follow. I understand that sometimes we pray to some sort of deity and it makes you feel relaxed, but this is the work of people. Artists are the ones who made these sculptures. Worshiping those artists should be what happens in 1000 years.

+Harvir Dhindsa You are right, we should still be giving credit to these artists years into the future, but just as we do now with archeological foundings, we tend to explain them as religious items when we can't find another explanation.

A while ago an ancient temple was found submerged underwater in Egypt. Not quite the same as it was an actual place of worship, but it has happened.

There is something uniquely beautiful about watching nature devour a beautiful piece of art in living color. It echoes the oblivion we all face should we fail to meet the challenges of our modern existence.

Concrete isn't toxic, and this kind is even pH neutral. The statues are just as harmless in the ocean as sand and rocks are. As he said, it even provided new habitation. It's not hurting the environment, it's helping

Favourite sculptor ever! Making use of a wonderful space and doing so in a way that benefits said environment. Then watching the piece transform into something even better at the hands of nature makes it that much greater!

This statement is of sound body and mind and directed to Mr. Taylor, supporters of a museum like this, scientists, ecological experts etc. Having a different view of life/afterlife/quality of life/burial etc. I was wondering whether someone's human remains, could if bequethed to this project, be incorporated in similar installations (where like those left to scientific research are being used to study decomposition/composting?) as both nutrients for plant/animal/ocean life as well as a foundation similar to those you create (in the donors case skeletal system) as a foundation for coral/algae growth etc? Obviously this is not for the squemish, nor anyone unable to accept their mortality, just an honest inquiry by someone intrigued and inspired and willing to "give back" to the ocean of life... Thank you for this video, this Art, this respect for life, yours,mine, everyone's, OUR WORLD - OUR OCEAN - NURTURE - NATURE.

+TheAnnoyingGunner he's an artist. He isn't a scientist. This is not only his art, but a way to help the environment. You can't expect an artist to spend his time doing scientific research. He's helping the way that he knows how.

Meg Alyssa You don't have to be a scientist to do some research. Yah, research, not research, stupid language that can't differentiate those two... But I prefer his statues over some daub of Pollock or Picasso, that's for sure.

+TheAnnoyingGunner i don't actually, don't get me wrong, i love it, but it doesn't teach me anything i didn't already know. Just the mere fact people are still upset Pollock or Picasso is art already proves how much more intellectually valuable the genius work of Pollock or Picasso is. I honestly didn't need these sculptures, I understand how it helps the ignorant, but I get the same aweinspiring spiritual buzz out of watching a plain nature docu. Artistically speaking this artist is totally forgettable, just a nice idealist making pretty pictures.

Alterior Motive ?? I reflected on this and initially was amazed, but everyone should read ALL the comments first before doing so themselves, as there are several detractors on here making very good points and questioning the validity of these sculptures. "Dynamiting seabeds, relocating poor local inhabitants, illegal ports, etc.....". Not everything is what it seems.

As if there is not enough harm humans made on actual earth, now they move under the sea. The ocean is stunning without all this manly creation. I am sure it does no just for the living world of waters as well. Vile project.

+Bradan Domhnull You are misguided, friend. These sculptures encourage the growth of corals. We need as much as we can get with all the corals dying off everywhere. They also help to move toward the goal the presenter described-sanctifying the oceans. This project is doing nothing but good for the oceans. As an aside, just because it is a creation of man does not mean it is good. Similarly, just because something is natural does not mean it is good.

He says he does it for ecology, for nature, for justice ... and yet he does the opposite, he does it in an illegal port built by throwing people from their homes, built by dynamiting the seabed. And it does it against the opinion of its inhabitants, in an illegal place, paid by the Government, without transparency, hiding the information. Dice que lo hace por ecología, por la naturaleza, por justicia... y sin embargo hace todo lo contrario, lo hace en un puerto ilegal construido echando a las gentes de sus casas, construido a base de dinamitar los fondos marinos. Y lo hace contra la opinión de sus habitantes, en un local ilegal, pagado por el Gobierno, sin transparencia, ocultando la información.
