I'm a software engineer who has been focussed on AI for over forty years now. I think that the path you are on is very promising! If you can crack this coordinate transformation problem, it may directly shed light on how 'reference frames' (as conceived by Jeff Hawkins) work in human intelligence. And, if we could understand and build up from there, we could really be off to the races!

This is an outstanding presentation. I believe Dr. Chance is on the right track and look forward to what she will reveal in the future. My own background is in engineering: control theory, wavelets, machine learning, and navigation.

I read the title, and instantly images of Starship Troopers came to mind, except that the bugs were giant terminator robot bugs instead! But on watching the video, the logic to the process just makes so much sense, and seems so obvious with hindsight, that you just know that it is the way forward in these matters. Great video.

We'll most likely have AGI systems before we build these biologically inspired computers she describes. The simple answer is that autonomous agents will set out to find an optimal computing substrate. Biological brains seem appealing yet consider how prone they are to all sorts of problems (diseases, injuries, etc). I would assume the next best computational substrate is not necessarily mammalian-inspired but something far better.

That’s why the D.O.D. has such a huge investment in human D.N.A. patents. And that’s why all patents must be declared invalid. First of all, the D.O.D. doesn’t own a single pencil. All government property belongs to the taxpayer. And secondly, humans aren’t bred like farm animals. People choose a spouse for many reasons, and none of those reasons is a concern of the Pentagon. Insect societies are inherently evil. Yes, they’re well planned. If you consider slavery and vicious military domination to be good planning.

I'm mystified why researchers don't run with the notion of cognitive architectures, per John Anderson. These models align well with cognitive psychology.

Despite this being an outstanding presentation that points out the incredible possibilities our digital devices can provide if working in a way an organic brain does, it is also a scary presentation. Why? Well, you know humans, don't you? 10 % of the population, the malicious actors, would find a way to use this new technology to start all kinds of nefarious activities harmful to the human race. So, I am jumping in excitement and shuddering in fear at the same time.

We skipped the part where we develop our own intelligence and went straight for replacing ourselves with infinitely more limited and boring replacements of ourselves who can only function by iterating on what already exists.
