Just a thought but Most of the time whenever I see the words inclusion and diversity The words "all white people are racist" seem to follow Along with "no you can't say that that's racist" I'm just weary of censorship
@gado__3 жыл бұрын
Not "all white people" are personally racist, anyone who believes that is missing the point. It's the sum of all societys parts, that are systematically (not individually/personally) racist: by mechanism that favour e.g. people with a white-sounding name when sending out resumes. That's been studied. Bottom line is basically: white people have an edge over poc, there is an asymmetry favouring non poc folks. Countering that asymmetry isn't racist and it's not "against white people" either...

@@gado__ Asian males, Asian females and 2nd generation Africans make more money than White males in Western societies. We can't even create equality in one family home between siblings, never mind on a national scale with people with different values and cultures. Bottom line is too complicated to write as one sentence, but work ethic, ability, personalities, family background, I.Q and so on, all play a part -for all races. No society in the history of mankind has ever created a population where everybody had the same outcome, there's been international studies on that. The equality, or equity, you strive for is a Marxist fairy tale, which we all know is a failure.

@@HeyyyitsBell that is not what is being done. That's not what it's about. And you can trust me on that, I'm German... I think I know what you mean, I heavily disagree. It's not about being guilty of something, it's about responsibility. And if a well off person with loads of privileges, that many other people never had the luxury to posess, thinks they don't bear any responsibility when it comes to (especially institutionalised) racism, then I think they're wrong. There's people who don't want to see that the world is incredibly unjust, and favouring white people. But you have to accept that society is the way it is before you can make any attempt to better the lives of people. There's enough studies to conclude that white people have an edge over non white people. Take a look at colonialism and you might just realise where this skewed balance has originated.

The idea that you get diversity by (selectively) hiring people with different colors of skin is fundamentally racist. If you want “diversity,” thinking that someone’s color of skin matters for anything but their complexion... is obviously racist.
@shingtome21793 жыл бұрын
True diversity is not in color, but in everything a person is (thought, personality, skill, etc.). In other words, diversity is the embracing of the individual, REGARDLESS of their skin color. Because one white man on the street may have more "black culture" knowledge than some other black man on the street. Just like how some Hispanic lady can be fluent in Chinese, or a Korean man could rap better than Kanye. You never know, until you get to know someone, because everyone is different. And because everyone is different and everyone has equal value as a human being (the only race that all people are), then we must highlight merit and character of a person over one's appearances if we truly want to be inclusive and responsible as neighbors in this both humongous yet small world.

It may be difficult to understand if you have not experienced racism and bigotry in America. Americans like to present themselves as something they are not.

You could always just hire because you think that person would be good for the job. Hiring someone based on race is a one way ticket to making everyone angry. Nobody gets paid enough to give a damn about skin color. We just want work to get done, how and when it needs to be done. If someone is genuinely being racist, punish them. You can make as many "inclusion" programs and what not as you want, but they will never work. You can't act like everyone is racist and somehow expect that will fix the very few that actually are racist. You work, I work, We work. We are coworkers, we talk, maybe we even joke and then we go home and forget that eachother exist.

This mindset is a problem. It should'nt make you angry if you aren't inherently racist. It only makes you angry because you actually are but are not willing to accept that.

I can tell people haven't even watched the video, because the entire video talks about letting people of color feel more welcome at work through group conversations, whereas everyone here is decrying supposedly racist hiring policies. Letting people feel welcome at work should be something everyone welcomes, but I guess some people don't feel that way. What everyone should agree on is that we should work to eliminate hostile work environments that women and people of color face due to bigotry, which force them to either leave well-paying jobs, or pay the psychological price of enduring an environment where people don't take you seriously, they make rude comments to you, and they harass you every single day. And by the way, consciously hiring a diverse workforce isn't a bad thing. Some people think that the best people are already being hired, they believe that trying not to pass over qualified talent from people of color is just a way for minorities to get an unfair advantage. It doesn't work that way, though. There's already a pool of equally qualified people, but currently white people tend to be chosen whenever all other qualifications are equal. The goal is to not do that. And feel free to get mad about quotas, but they're what happen when attempts to hire by merit fail, and they try to hire a diverse, qualified workforce according to the racial makeup of their location manually rather than naturally. It's crude, but sometimes it happens.

Here is a thought how about choosing on merit for the best person for the job and leaving diversity and inclusion to the racists and bigots trying to make money from it. No one deserves a particular job as a right. You have to earn it.

Making 'special' for people with a disability more steps to do in isolation while they are learning a new skill instead of allowing people a bit more time to learn the steps of a new routine fully accepted as already being part of a team or a class until it becomes another skill in their skill set too is NOT how to be inclusive. Instead it is using a person with a disability to be only a mascot being used as only another way of advertising the company as being one that has the good value of being charitable to people with disabilities.
