Simon Sinek presents a simple but powerful model for how leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers -- and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling.
The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and more. I mean, it IS a presentation, and that sounded like a prop plane, why would a prop plane be flying over a convention center in Washington? It's probably just a sound effect to reinforce his point, and it was clearly VERY effective.

"People buy things that prove what they believe"... that was mind blowing. Even though it explains how to attract consumers, it also reveals answers to human behavior in other aspects of life . E.g. what a person believes about themselves and how they "buy" into ideals to "prove" their stance on it

For other reasons.

When Simon Sinek made the statement, "Great leaders think, act, and communicate the same way and it is completely backwards from everyone else," he did a fantastic job at both setting up the stage for his platform as well as genuinely grabbing my attention because from that point forward I was invested in his explanation to that statement. The Golden Circle model he created in regards to What, How, and Why is an excellent visual tool that simplified his explanation of how these inspired leaders think from the inside out versus how everyone else thinks from the outside in. I particularly liked how he linked his model to the layers in the human brain and how the outside part of the brain deals with language and the ability to understand figures and facts but the real accomplishment is speaking to the inside part of the brain that drives behavior and where decision-making originates. That is the part of the brain that the inspired leaders talk to and get you to believe in what they believe and create a sense of trust and loyalty as opposed to throwing facts and numbers at you.

Well.. why exactly do you do HR work? Everyone (I'd say 85% ppl) wants a job cos of money in the end. By not checking their CV you're saying their whole life has been useless up till now.

It´s interesting to see how the impact of the message changes when you know where to start. Here it's shown that emotionality is important in the speech, finally achieving a connection with the audience is the key to success.

This video has had a profound impact on me since the time I first saw it in 2012. It has been a part of change in my approach towards the way I present things , the way I train people , the way I look at things. I have been revisiting this video over and over again and every time it sinks in more deeply. Inspiring to the core. It all begins with Why.. Thank you Simon for bringing out this to us. Would love to really connect with you in person

I was surprised to rediscover this TED Talk from over a decade ago, which perfectly aligns with my startup's vision under the guidance of our two founders: building a company with a clear 'why,' attract like-minded individuals who share the same beliefs, driven by a greater cause, purpose, and unwavering belief.

Simon is an amazing speaker. I enjoyed how he correlated the major components of the brain with the inside-out approach of the "golden circle." The traditional approach that works from the outside does not drive behavior. To inspire people to adopt a new idea, you must talk about what you believe and why. When people believe what you believe, they will support your cause.

2:42 Simply AMAZED.. Not at the concept (its not the first time I am seeing it) but at the fact that he just FLEW over the most important point "Profit is just a result". Results vs The Why is such a huge chasm of difference that some folks (a miniscule minority get). @ted if you are listening.. Please have this expanded on....
