I am constantly shocked at the “hype machine” generated when Rolex introduces a new color or adds friggin crown guards to a watch no one likes, and then the lack thereof when Grand Seiko actually shocks and awes the world with watches like these… I can’t even begin to imagine what the hype machine and prices would be like if any of these watches, not necessarily all of them, were released by any Swiss brand…
@Luciamason34

Couldn’t agree more. Everyone desperate to get to Rolex to find that the crowns on the other side the bezel is green and there’s some diamonds in the middle of the face. Well done Teddy on showcasing some watches people would actually like to buy. The tourbillion is great but can’t afford that, might have an eye on a gmt tho

We need to stop mentioning Rowlecks under the same breath with Grand Seiko. Seriously, Patek, ALS or GS might as well make a super watch that can fix your car, tell some moonphase of jupiter's moons or something, win an argument against your wife while telling the time accurately at +/- 0,000001 seconds per month and people will still find a way to mention Rowlecks in the comments. It just adds fuel to the fire as to why people would even bother defending a company like Rolleks and build up the hype. Not to mention free advertising. One of the reasons i purposly write the name wrong as well. besides, the Rowleks bubble will burst one day and those pieces of steal will drop in value faster than bear stearns stock in 2008

That last story where the watchmaker used to be a musician and made that heartbeat pair with the ticking sound every second is amazing, sounds like a metronome which makes the watch even more personal to the watchmaker. Such a stunning watch with such close attention to detail.

The more I research Grand Seiko, I am finding out what a great watch brand they are and one of the reasons I start collecting watches. True craftsmanship, quality, and pride in their work. Their work speak for themselves, no hype marketing needed like the Crown. I am reminded of buying GS for what it is, and not what others think or how much I can resale it for. If I am buying a watch to worry about resale value, then I am just a day trader of watches. I bought a Rolex Sea Dweller 3 years ago, "just because". Honestly, it does nothing for me. It just sits in my watch winder and doesn't tug at me like a JLC or Grand Seiko. So I will end up selling my Rolex and researching for my first GS.

I've asked Joe about smaller divers possibly being in the future of GS and he's always mum on that. I don't see why it's that difficult for them to give me a 41 x 12 mm diver. Every other manufacturer seems to be able to deliver around those dimensions.

What's strange is that he seems to almost imply here that these divers can possibly take way more than 200m (wouldn't surprise me, I've seen pressure tests of Prospex 200m divers going well beyond even 600m and staying intact). In which case, why don't they rate their divers higher?

Great video Teddy. I would have loved to see more details on the clasp/bracelets also. Especially any micro adjust features.

That tourbillon might be my new favourite watch ever. Nails having a beautifully presented movement, within a subdued case. Perfect balance.
