I just want to give you a little bit of a look into the choreography that Hyunjin made here, since everything, from the dance itself, through the song chosen, outfit chosen, tiding up his hair and even the props like mirror and the rose - all these things were his idea. Play with fire is a story about beautiful prince (everyone's been refering to Hyunjin as a "prince" since the school) who is considered as just beautiful and elegant and perfect but he has a wild animal inside and his heart is full of fire, especially while he dances. That's why he looks so messy at the end, because every person has flaws and imperfections. At the beginning when he pops and chokes himself it's his true imperfect and wild nature coming out of him, breaking through the "perfect prince shell" and at the end he's choking himself again, silencing that wild nature that can't be released and he just walks away back to his schedules and normal work, back to trying to be perfect in the society and industry that requires perfection in every aspect. It's a dance about passion that burns within him but can't be fulfilled in the way he wants. Hyunjin has an artistic soul and express himself through the art, making choregraphies, making photos or drawing, and this is his own story he wanted to tell us after four months of being silenced and hidden.

There was too much to say in premiere. This was Hyunjin’s “comeback” after his forced hiatus. Maybe the “choking” could be a reflection of his not be able to express his feelings re that, so much open to interpretation. However, for his cover of “When the Party’s Over”; he has said it’s about the emptiness he feels after leaving a live stage or performance; after the high of STAYS energy he feels during. Rest assured all movement have purpose and definition and it shows. Completely different style and feel from this or his AOTM. So good, all of them. Thank you for reacting! ❤️🙏😇

I still remember this day, the day Hwang Hyunjin returned from a long break and came back with this choreography, everywhere you saw the legend "THE PRINCE HAS RETURNED", Hyunjin's name was a trend for days with more than 1 million tweets, the video was trending in many countries, and seeing it here again just reminds me how talented and amazing Hyunjn is.

“It’s everything about it. It’s not only stimulus for your ears, but your eyes as well.” THIS! This is what I love so much about SKZ and Kpop in general, it totally panders to my ADHD lol. This video was one of the first things that I had experienced from Stray Kids, shortly after seeing a few Kingdom performances. I was hooked from then on out. Hyunjin is a masterful performer, I never tire of watching him. I have been a dancer for over 20 years, and it’s always exciting to watch someone develop like Hyunjin has. I really enjoyed this reaction (as always) and was totally giggling with you at the end 😅

I've seen a lot of discussion on this particular video and most of it does come down to Hyunjin expressing duality. The uptight Prince constrained by duty and propriety vs the Freedom of the Dancer who wants the excitement of doing what he wants. Being daring and "playing with fire". It's expressed in things you don't even notice such as Hyunjin's shirt coming more untucked and open as the song progresses only to be buttoned again at the end as he is "choked" by the expectations of his role. Hyunjin thinks deep when he choreographs a performance for himself and you'll spend time finding all of his layers. But it's always worth it. And the fact that dance is only One of his Many, Stunning talents is Insane!! Have you seen the man Paint?!! UGH!! He is Def a modern Renaissance man. ❤️❤️❤️

Hyunjin speaks everything with his dance. It is a vocabulary he knows well.. He speaks body language perfectly. Evaeryone are able to connect with his ideas (even people who do not know anything about dance) . He is a genius 'cause he is a giver. He do not hide anything when he dances.

I notice that in Stray kids choreography too, they use a lot of small movements that seem to fit perfectly along to the beat of the song. Hyunjin doing those very controlled movements at the beginning of the dance is an example of a popping style where each gesture looks jerky or stiff like your popping something into place. It's usually done to the beat of the music so having that visual connection to the instrumental makes those beats more satisfying since it syncs so well. To be honest it's that kind of technique of dancing that makes me want to take up dance, it must feel so great moving along to music that way, of course it's also exhausting.

What I love about this piece is it has a real narrative about Hyunjin's journey from being the prince to being knocked down and silenced. This song was him breaking free and telling his story through dance. In the B&W part it was him being knocked down or burned up. But the real beauty is you can see how he doesn't just dance to the beat like most dancers, he dances to the different little sounds in a song. He hears the music differently than most. He has another performance When the Party is Over. It is another one where you see how he dances with emotion and will make you like the song even if it isn't your style because he is telling his story of how he feels when he leaves the stage and can't perform for Stays.

I really appreciate this reaction! At first, when I first saw this performance, I was confused as well bc of the effect where the music and colour fades and only the crackling of fire is heard, but then well, he dances about how he likes to play with fire, and people who play with fire get burned. I loooove how he drags his leg, how he crawls across the ground, just barely escaping the flames and making it back up, laughing and slightly manic. He is an artist through and through

This is basically Hyunjin dismantling his “prince” title. Since he has a pretty face, others often disregard his hard work and talent. Throughout the video, we barely ever see his full face, and when we do it’s always obscured by the shadows or his hair, or it’s a reflection in the mirror. At the beginning he started with this “princely” getup, then we see him throwing his cape away, and his shirt buttons come loose. Bit by bit, he unravels that “prince” persona and forces you to see him only as Hyunjin. He forces you to disregard the beauty of his face and instead focus on the beauty of his performance and artistic intent. He truly is one of a kind.

This is everything I’ve been waiting for 🥹. Fun fact I learned recently- the point you talked about when he drops down low to the ground and gives that creepy smile, he also does something similar in the Motley Crew performance. He calls it his “psycho smile” and thinks of the facial expression on its own as a dance move. *Side note, one of his all time fave villains is the Joker, which makes the “you got me like Harley” line hit a bit more for me, but I’m also pretty biased since I’m a Harley Quinn cosplayer 😅♦️♦️♦️

Me: “Hello Hunjin….my name is ‘fire’….I like the smell of gasoline too!” *strikes a match.

I think he chose this song because it has elements of fire and flowers. We already know that he has been slandered with nonsense stories and went through days of hiatus alone. The "FIRE" of evil is everywhere and he will not give in but rise up giving them FLOWERS as a symbol of love. But they (the enemy) must understand that he is still the king and at the end of the mv he seems to show who is really desperate, him or them.
