Jimin is actually using the rapping autotuned element to represent the darker side of his mind in this song which is having a conversation with his "normal" voice. It's a super genius artistic choice imo. The effects on his voice give this interesting variety of textures that aid his story telling

only in certain parts ... 2nd part of video ... to emphasize his feelings of anger at those who judge plus even his inner insecurity. He wants all done with. If you don't recognize Jimin's rap vocals then you were not a part of the fandom in the beginning of group. I have been with them since before debut. As I followed RM from underground rap scene. Back in that day you had to bootleg/hack into the scene. Not legally available to US back then. I was into rap & street crew dance offs. RM was hot .. rad as a young rapper that could out do most back then . Glad I followed him. In beginnings they were a hip-hop group & all of them rapped. Jimin sounded just like that but he has added or honed his unique quality to his vocals. His rapping back then was deeper rasp with a growl. He was known for that growl. Plus he got angry back then about judgement but learned to quiet it down. We just got to experience young self mixed with mature self. No bars held back. Bless Jimin as so great to see.

This song is basically Jimin stating that he’s tired of everyone's bs and when he says “Fuck all your opps” I seen it as opinions basically saying that no matter what people say about him he will not let it get to him like in the past Jimin is not a normally aggressive person which is more of the reason why this song proves he doesn't give a shit anymore

@@TeddyGreyOS Well BTS has kind of always had that attitude since so many people look down on them e.g. all the Korean underground rappers they used to ride with, most of the English-speaking world, etc. A couple tracks immediately come to mind e.g. their Cyphers kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLppZpOJq5faqnU.html or MicDrop kzfaq.info/get/bejne/obqcqZiQp9mckas.html or more recently "On" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLppZpOJq5faqnU.html. I love Suga's line "Whatever you say. Whatever they say. I don't give an uhh!" Almost all the people that look down on them don't know them at all...just have perceptions of them because they're a "boy band" or from Korea or hear one song and don't like it or whatever. Most people that spend some time exploring them eventually figure out the many reasons why they were able to go from literally handing out flyers on the streets of LA almost begging people to come see their free concert 9 years ago to having one of the largest, most loyal & diverse (across race, gender, nationality & age) fanbases likely ever seen in music history.

He’s shocked everyone (in the best possible way) with this track & MV. The artistry here, I think, is magnificent. Something I did notice about Jimin in regards to rapping, is that when he rapped the beginning section of AgustD’s (SUGA’s) Daechwita in a live performance, he made this guttural sound at the end that fascinated me. So while I am blown away by this track, I’m not really surprised at his huge & impressive variety in vocal styles here. I actually disliked the way they performed Daechwita overall, but I thought Jimin’s part was intriguing, & JHope’s part was absolutely killer. I thought JHope’s set at Lollapalooza was phenomenal as well.

Jimin is simply a genius. When he says "I won't stop even if they mock me", you can see the dancers pointing at him, judging him, referring to how people perceive him and the narratives they constantly impose or project on him and him basically saying no matter what you say, I'll keep shining. "Fly away, butterfly Finally free" He is ready to fly. The butterfly lyric mirrored in this effortlessly smooth and sexy move and the fact that he is flanked by two female dancers here just accentuates his appeal. He is lifted up by the throng and here people have noted the parallels to Lie and it is calming to think that Set Me Free Pt 2 resolves and brings closure to the emotions that inspired that song. In an interview Jimin explained: "I tried to express the grand scale of the song and [the ideas of] determination, passion, and overcoming. “Set me free” means setting myself free, so I thought it was important that I be the one to set myself free - not someone else. In the end, I’m the one who has to set myself free. I would say the song has the energy of a light in the darkness. I wanted to express that kind of picture everyone has in their head - a ray of light coming into the darkness is the only thing you can see. If I had to say specific colors, I’d say black and white." Jimin is a true artist in every sense of the word. The birth of the King!

This is definitely Jimin breaking free. Typically he is utilized in BTS’s song for the high notes. His voice is very powerful, high but can also be very airy. We all know he can sing lower but in group songs that wasn’t his purpose. So now with his solo stuff, he can sing however he wants. He’s also been known in the past to be very very hard on himself and be a perfectionist. Over the years We have watched him slowly shed this persona he started out with and learn to be comfortable with who he is. This side of Jimin makes me so proud. Thanks for continuing to give BTS a chance!

Jimin is about the last person I expected to see on your channel but I'm glad you liked the song! Here's a few things you probably wouldn't know: 1. The song is called Set Me Free pt.2 because the part one is a song by Agust D (Suga) released in 2020. Jimin himself mentioned that this song is somewhat of a sequel to Agust D's song. 2. 'Going insane to stay sane' is a line from their song ON (it has a similar vibe to this one so if you want to check all of BTS then ON Kinetic Manifesto might be good. Or maybe do Born Singer first👀) thematically could be considered a prequel to this as it talks about drowning in lies and wanting to be free from that. 4. The set can be seen as a panopticon. I would say this idea is further reinforced by the choreo where the four dancers get lifted up and point fingers at Jimin. That part kind of reminds me of the watchtower of a panopticon and the guards always looking into the prison cells. It's interesting to think how this translates to the life of a celebrity, how they don't know when they are being watched so they always have to behave as if they are watched all the time. 5. This is a bit random but the shirt of Jimin's first outfit has a cut on the side right where his Nevermind tattoo is. Nevermind is a song by Suga (there's a line in it that says 'Never mind, it won't be easy but engrave it on your chest' which Jimin obviously took literally, haha). Maybe another subtle reference, who knows. 6. The text on Jimin's torso is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke: I live my life in widening circles that stretch outwards across the world. I may never reach the final one but I give myself to it. I circle around God, that primordial tower. I've been circling for thousands of years and I still don't know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song. Side note, I'm pretty sure Jimin cusses a lot as he often slips up during lives and such, but he has never cussed in a song so yes, we all gasped. Also I think you forgot the amount of vulgarity and swearing in Joke and Daechwita. RM and Suga don't really hold back. Baepsae is a good song to crush your image of BTS being boring polished idols. They basically criticize Korean social class and economic divide and subtly call boomers mfkers, yep. I think you're struggling to get into BTS because you lack context. Their songs are like puzzle pieces. If you only have a couple pieces you might not be too impressed but the whole picture might just be the most magnificent thing you've ever seen. This song alone relates to three other songs. A lot of their music is like that. And keep in mind that BTS came from nothing. We're talking peeling wallpapers in their dorm and mold growing on the practice room mirrors. The first album was recorded in a garage... They became as popular as they are because they deserved it so I hope you keep digging.

You said you don't know the history of BTS or Jimin. Jimin is the member who receives the most hate inside and outside the BTS fandom. He is offended daily and has even received death threats. This is written by Jimin, Supreme Boi, Ghstloop, and Pdogg. Ghstloop and Pdogg also produced (with Jimin). Those 3 are like the dream team of BigHit. They have worked with BTS a ton (BTS members are involved in writing and producing on all their works, heavily by RM and SUGA). Jimin is considered a vocalist in BTS, and was training as a contemporary dancer before coming to BTS. He was probably the furthest from rapper as you could get, but with RM and SUGA as mentors, there's so many possibilities. In k-pop, most group members have "roles". The cute one, the sassy one, the maknae, the leader, etc. Much of BTS solo work is to say, we are more than just a role. We are human and have many sides and don't have to be just what you've decided in your mind. It is related to the cursing they are doing. In Korea, if you cursed, the song could not be broadcasted. So it was damaging to have that in your songs. BTS and the members are big enough now that they don't have to worry about those rules as much. Stray Kids, Blackpink, etc are also able to be free of that stuff to a certain extent as well. As BTS become big, it brought a wider audience to give those other groups a listen and hear how amazing they all are. So it's changing, slowly. Keep in mind also the chronological order of things. These songs span 10 years. The solo songs (excluding RM and Agust D) are just from the last couple years. Much of them were started to be written during pandemic. So you will see development and increased skills as you follow them in order.

I like to think Jimin is definitely doing this for himself, and not for anyone else, let alone another culture. BTS didn't start out big or come from a big record label. They were actually nearly bankrupt when BTS was formed back in 2013 and even then, they nearly disbanded a few years later because they weren't seeing a lot of success. It was a hard road for them to get to where they are today and Jimin had a bigger struggle than most. He received a lot of hate and threats against his life , and there's a lot of suspicions about mental health struggles too. I haven't dug a lot into it but this song seems to be him setting himself free of all of that and allowing himself to be the artist, performer, and person that he wants to be, not the one eveyone else wants or expects him to be. Thanks for the reaction. I'm ARMY and a fellow STAY, and I always appreciate your honest and sometimes quite enthusiastic reactions. They help me find new appreciation for songs, even ones that I already absolutely love.

Jimin has one of the most unique tones in the music industry, he sings like an angel. Ths is different sound from him but his creative use of distortion is smart and the whole MV is telling a story of his progression to accept himself. He pushes hmself and his art and I applaud his courage for doing something not expected for a solo debut. Its a shame you dont give the group work a try, they really have a diverse discography. This notion that if its popular its must be mainstream bubble gum shit is prejudicing you from some really great music. The accusations always thrown at them that theyre catering to a western sound is ridiculous because KPOP is founded on western music. The difference with BTS is that they actually have respect for their hiphop roots and their craft. They are popular and successful for a reason.

You neglected to mention his very valid point tho: if something's insanely popular then he's right that he's highly likely to be criticised and labeled as a hater if he doesn't end up liking it. Y'all armys should know damn well that many people in the fandom are shit at taking opinions that disagree with theirs, and will cope by sending death threats or passive aggressive comments. So he's not wrong for wanting to stay away from popular things that people get too intense over. He'll still find plenty of great music 🤷‍♀

@goldenfred5815 this isnt a problem with just ARMY. This is an accusation thats always thrown at ARMY yet never at other fans who also have toxic people who engage in the same behaviour - every artist has fans that do this. ARMY is a HUGE fanbase, of course there are going to be assholes, but stop with this generalisation and repeated lie that ARMY are always aggressive and bullying. This is not true. Also this isnt the reason he avoided BTS music - his assumption was it was mainstream industry manifacture - which is pretty much what most of kpop and western pop is?

@@annaarwen4345 I hope you realise that you yourself are generalising: " _...always_ thrown at ARMY yet _never_ at other fans...." is a generalisation and victim-minded statement, because there are plenty of people who criticise other fandoms, yet because of whatever reason, you haven't taken it in or just haven't ventured out enough to encounter it. I myself wasn't generalising army, you made that assumption yourself. I literally used the term "many," because it's true. Even if it's only a tiny portion who are toxic, considering the size of the fandom, that portion still makes up thousands and thousands. The writing on Jimin's chest is from a German poem written over 100 years ago called “I live my life in widening circles” by Rainer Maria Rilke "I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?" Most of BTS' music has a deep message and much of it is drawn from literature, philosophy, natural science, etc. & is often drawn from their life experiences, sociological observations, etc. so this is on point for this moment in Jimin's life & the group's history.

He's doing it for him. He has always been held back from doing his thing, he said this in an interview and now he's embarking on his solo era so this is all for him. His message is clear, he also has a lot of antis due to his vocals which in the past in BTS have been quite restrictive, so this is him now becoming free. Also the pics in the back look like j-hope and BTS lol.

Jimin nearly didnt make it into bts but Suga really believed in him and loved his voice/tone.And a couple staff members had his back. ❣Jimin’s “Set Me Free Pt.2’, it’s everything & more then I could hope for, Jimin’s amazing artistry, his so beyond spectacular,, so mesmerizing, phenomenal performance! The song, Jimin’s vocals, his dancing, the amazing choreography, also the amazing backup dancers, the lyrics he wrote, the music he composed as well as being involved in the production! Jimin was hands on, involved with every facet! No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this makes me that much more excited, waiting in anticipation for release of the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” on March 24, along with his other, main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! Jimin’s true, real, inner self will be finally seen in all its raw, authentic, amazing, heartfelt, passionate, emotional, sincere glory! This is aside from Jimin’s full range, hardly ever being shown, aside from high notes, but being finally able to show his full registry, mid range as well as lower registry as well! I’ve always been so frustrated not being able to see as well as hear Jimin’s full capacity of talent. So often not being fully taken advantage of, but that comes with being part of a group, that has every single member having so much talent that it’s been so limiting for Jimin, especially him being so selfless, making a point of having others shine before himself. Now the spotlight will be just on him! Though we’ve seen Jimin’s amazingly spectacular, so mesmerizingly outstanding solo performances before. But now, as Jimin himself, mentioned, he’ll indeed be showing the depth of his raw inner self! If I had to say specific colors, I’d say black and white."

Enjoyed your reaction! I get being wary of the popularity, but it’s their specific journey as a band, the unique way they built their fanbase, how they broke all the Kpop rules in their content, the depth of lyrics and visuals (the Rilke poem on Jimin’s chest being in conversation with the lyrical content and symbolism in the choreography as an example) and how much the industry and public actively tried to suppress them that has made them what they are today. The fans are extremely protective and enthusiastic as a result. Other groups have adopted their practices and many are allowed to be much more a part of their own creative processes as a result. BTS didn’t invent all of it, but they were the ones that defined it and paved the way for other groups to follow. There are really good guides, introductions, and video essays on KZfaq that break it all down. Of course ARMY wants to watch you react to these, but even if you do it on your own time as research, you’ll learn a lot and it’s unexpectedly fun and entertaining (a lot of people go in skeptical and are surprised by how much they enjoy it). Holler if you want recommendations. No pressure to post reactions to them.

The writing on Jimin's body towards the end of the video Is from a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?

words tattooed on Jimin's torso are actually a German poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. The poem goes: I live my life in ever widening circles, each superseding all the previous ones. Perhaps I never shall succeed in reaching the final circle, but attempt I will. I circle around God, the ancient tower, and have been circling for a thousand years, and still I do not know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a continuing great song?

as a stray kids ult like you (lee know and han are my favorites but honestly everyone haha) ---i really like bts and they paved the way for Korean artists internationally, my rec is to try some of their group songs and then go into their new solo careers because they have just now began their full solo careers so they are being a lot more experimental like this video. a lot of your stray kids subscribers would also love bts reactions by the way! ----try mic drop steve aoki remix as a good introduction to them as a group, (war on hormones-no more dream-and boy in luv are their older more rap heavy songs) --diving into their solos i would give jhope arson a listen ----don't be afraid of BTS' popularity because their discography has a wide variety of genres so you may like certain songs and dislike others just try to keep an open mind --jimin is a reallllllyyy special artist, he is a dance master, vocalist master, and has a vibe that you do not see often --he is known as the one with an almost female voice but people are really drawn to him, even those who usually like rap lol --p.s. i have watched all your stray kids reactions so i would like to think i know some of your preferences haha and although bts has a very different vibe i do think you will like them

Literally this! From the beginning! Makes me very happy to know that even just one person sees that! I was so opposed to K-pop’s influence because I thought it was just feminising boys. The first two verses of Jimin’s are HIS actual voice melodically rapping; in the early days of fetus BTS, he not only sang his falsettos but also in his lower register that he rarely used in later years. The first time he uses auto tune in this song is with the phrase “I never stop…“ He is using his angry conversational voice when he uses auto tune and his own voice as the other voice in his head demanding he be set free from all of the self-doubt. He is also telling his haters (of 10 years) that he doesn’t give a $hit what they think anymore…he’s going to be ‘himself’ - he won’t be put in a stereotypical box anymore. All of this were the struggles and feelings he was wrestling with in his mind when they were in quarantine., when he could no longer ignore it. The repetitiveness you were talking about was necessary to show the desperation he was feeling for release during the pandemic. That’s likely why it didn’t bother you - because it was authentic.

I'm so happy that many are now looking at The Park Jimin . i saw many learning about him cos the song was trending #1 on YT . He had to go solo for this and tell his story . He did tell us a little in lie and promise but didn't really let us enter in his life and now with his story telling album , i can relate more to him . He was involved in basically every little detailing and wrote all his experiences and made a song out of it.... A genius is all I can say .

just a fyi ALL of bts members have creative freedom and have ALWAYS had creative freedom since their debut in 2013. they are one of the reasons groups like stray kids has creative freedom today because other labels saw bts got successful because of their lyrics being personal to them since theyre the ones writing it. before it was rare for kpop idols to have any creative freedom and usually it was like a handful of idols. bts made it the standard. many groups under hybe have creative freedom some groups who are under other labels who started out not having freedom then their label was acquired by hybe and then those groups were given creative freedom. the reason why armys come off the way they do is cause most kpop fans dont put respect on bts name and manipulate new fans and reactors into doing the same when bts is the reason majority of these groups got any global success if bts didnt get nominated for a billboard in 2017 kpop would still be a niche that most dont know what it is. now its global. thats due to bts success. so many things you see in kpop like having youtube channels, twitter accounts, creative freedom, easy access to kpop albums in stores etc all of this was because of bts like its not me gassing them up its fact. i never minded you not liking joke and idk what happened on twitter but imo you should react to a guide to bts and bts hardships and for many of the new solo albums coming out you will always have layers missing due to you needing to know their history to understand why theyre making the music choices they are. like you said it wouldve been better for you to know jimin had creative freedom before reacting. all 7 members contribute to every group song and all 7 have a lot of solo music even before 2022/2023 many of them released solo tracks, covers, collabs, mixtapes etc i think you should react to boracity magazines videos especially the video "trends bts created" and "bts paved the way why is it so hard to accept it" i also suggest reacting to bts hardships 2013 - 2021 by xceleste

I completely understand not wanting to get into BTS because they seem too overhyped. I felt the same way initially. Now, I love them for their substance, versatility, talent, and humility. We all know that you value substance, authenticity, and talent, and they have those in spades. Imagine if you had missed out on Stray Kidz because they are so popular. Anyway, if you like the big band/ choir sounds in this, you may like On Kinectic Manifesto. Also, if you like artistic videos, there are many, but I would recommend Black Swan. The lyrics in both are really good. For a Jimin song, I recommend Lie, but it is very different for this song. Jimin is a people pleaser (I can relate), so his songs are often about learning to put that aside and be himself. Thanks for always keeping it real.

I will say I don't like every song that I've heard from them, however you are missing out on some great music by not listening to them. Not only do they rap and sing, they write, compose, and produce most of their music themselves. How they started and how they got where they are now is an inspiring story. Their love for each other, their fans and their music shines through everything they do. I think that is why they are worth the effort to get to know them and their music, even if its on your own.

70 year old BTS Army here. BTS's label BigHit/Hybe has always encouraged them to be pro-active in the writing and production of their own music unlike other S.Korean labels. The label has been increasingly cutting them slack in regards to profanities and creative directions that they have wanted to apply to their solo music. Jimin is clapping back at haters, solo stans and stalkers, (aka akgaes who love only one member and hate the rest of them.), in this song. Death threats and other hate has been an emotional burden to him as well as the others. It has been said that Jimin receives more of it than the other six. Sickening. Thanks for your honest reaction!

If you give good arguments, like "it's not my cup a tea", etc, it's ok. Haters are those who not even listen to the songs and criticize them, with no base of arguments but spreading hate. All the times I watched your reactions to BTS I see you trying to analize the song, the whole production, with respect. And respect and honesty are the only things we ask for the reactors, ok? I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?

Your interpretation is quite right. More details. 1. BTS discography uses autotune, and dark clothes to represent inner fears/ shadows as in Black Swan. Dark clothed people also represent haters as in mic drop, not today etc Here they represent both. 2. The tattoos on Jimin's body is from a poem in German by Maria Rainer Rilke . About life as widening circles which is the concept of Jimin's album Face. The cover shows that.

The best reactions are always the most objective and unbiased one. Since it comes from a point of just pure respect for one's work. Thank you for your reaction it was refreshing, honest and even if leaning towards my bias JM downright objective. I am of an opinion that Jimin's Set me free is a real artwork as a whole both for the eyes and the ears. He made me like robotic autotune for the first time because it was well done and well placed and just because I know his real voice it did not take anything away from his vocals.

jimin está empezando su etapa de solista, su album sale el 24 de marzo y "like crazy" es la canción principal. sus solos bajo el nombre de bts son diferentes a esta nueva etapa como solista pero "lie" suena como esta canción, tal vez filter también te guste

JIMIN. BTS, the K-pop group he is in , all members are beginning their ARMY service, which usually lasts 2 years. So all 7 members are going solo. 1- is already in the Army. This is Jimin, in his full, artistically creative self. He is going forward with his own growth in doing different styles in music besides K-pop. He is going global & this is just the single. I CAN'T wait for the album. GO JIMIN! LOVE BTS. ❤Jimin is loved all over the world. As is the other 6 members. Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
