Is the STI still a relevant driver's car or are we due for a massive change? Also I was wrong about steering. Only the WRX got the electronic assist. Huge thanks to Patreon supporters for making this content possible

I believe we’re due for a massive change. As much as I like the exterior and interior, the powertrain is very outdated. The EJ25 at this point is like.. 20 years old? Maybe for the next gen they use the FA24 from the Ascent. Anyways, how’s your day going?

5:48 is extremely accurate - by the time you get to the speed limit, or even slightly beyond, it's all over and now you're back to cruising at speeds that won't attract law enforcement. And you didn't even use more than a fraction of what is available to you. At least in cars like the Civic type-R (or the STI), you can enjoy the run from 0 - whatever because the driving experience (and the manual transmission) engages you every step of the way.

I've owned my sti for 5 years now. I definitely would like to see more power. 300hp is nothing for modern cars nowadays. @Cam_Lotro
@Cam_Lotro 3 жыл бұрын
@@stefan_4508 my guy lol. 400whp is a substantial money pit. fuel system alone is going to be $2000-2500, the turbo, an extra $1200-1400, the downpipe, $500, the intake/air upgrades, another 600. and that's cutting literally every corner in doing that build. not to mention your tune which will run you up another 1k. realistically to get 400whp in ANY boxer engine, in a reliable form, expect to pay I would say no less than 8k and then "sacrifice reliability a bit" 500-600whp, Idk how long you think those piston ringlands will last, I've seen them fail in 5k miles of a brand new off the lot EJ :( sad but true.

I personally own the 2020 version of this car and I legitimately almost never put it in sports sharp mode. This car has realistic power and I think the AWD system and handling of the car makes up for the speed. Also this is a great car to have if you live in snowy areas and you still want a fast dependable car. Although, if you do buy this car try to get a set of smaller tires. In my experience the only times I get stuck is when the snow gets packed inside the wheel wells.

Just bought a 2020 STI myself actually, and yeah it's not the fastest thing out there at all but god damn is it an enjoyable car to drive. 5:11 yesss thank you!! I have a stage 2 F80 pushing nearly 600 crank and it’s a literal rocket ship. It’s gotten to a point now where it is too fast, it’s not fun anymore unless I’m on a track because I can’t go fast without hitting like 110 or 120 which is way too fast for public roads. These cars that are “slow” are so much more fun for backroad driving

I just bought a new STI in February and my first Subaru. Having owned a lot of performance platforms in the past this is a great car. I put the Cobb stage 1 on my 2nd week of ownership. It makes a huge difference in torque in the 2500-5300 rpm range. Very useable in the lower gears and imo makes it into how it should have come from the factory from the getgo. Flex fuel next...

I’ve had a 2016 WRX since 2016 and after 60,000 miles I still love it. I think it strikes a very nice balance between analog and digital that will be difficult to find in the near future. I also think the 2.0 with the smaller, twin scroll turbo in the WRX is better for regular driving than the 2.5 in the STi. Basically I’m saying if you can find one in good condition used, it would be a great option for a lot of upstart car enthusiasts. Just make sure to buy a second set of wheels and tires (one winter and one summer set) to get the most out of the car year round.

That's correct! The 6-speed in STis is often left stock (clutch upgraded ofc) on 700 horsepower cars. The 5-speed is often becomes prone to breaking when driven mildly spirited at anything beyond about 350 WHP, and the more mileage on it, the worse it gets. My 280 WHP 5MT Legacy GT wagon's synchros are pretty worn out at 218K.

It only had 220bhp but was very light and handled like a go-kart. Every time I took it out on the road it felt like a special stage.
