Teresa Hsu was born second of four children to a poor family in Guangdon Province, China in 1898. At 16, she left for Hong Kong where she studied to be a stenographer, a bookkeeper and later, a nurse in UK. As a nurse, she joined the International Voluntary Service for Peace (IVSP) and travelled around Europe to help the needy. She has also worked in Paraguay. When she moved to Singapore, she setup Home for the Aged Sick in 1930, where she was Matron up to the age of 85. Now over 100 years old, she continues to help the needy via her organisation, Heart to Heart.
She joined with many women in Singapore who delivered TEDx Talks to share their stories and ideas joining with the voices of hundreds of other during Global TED Women over 2 days in Dec 2010.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

So God's gave her longevity? It has nothing to do with where she was born, the city she lives in that has a very high life expectancy rate, the food she ate, the things that brought her happiness and peace she indulged in and the purpose that drives her?

@Natural Body Meals The Sun gives us warmth, the Sun gives us light, the sun gives us food, the sun gives us air to breathe, take away the sun and we cannot exist, where is your god now? do not give God credit for this beautiful soul. and I believe in the power of the sun and fairly confident the sun is a greater power than myself.

@@valeriecheersbrown4829She was affectionately called Mother Teresa of Singapore. And like St. Teresa, her entire life was defined by the poverty and sufferings of those she encountered. There was a positive positive energy that surrounded her. She would not flatter, neither would she criticise. Her life was spent in charity, thoughts, deeds and words. A nation mourned when she passed on. God bless her soul.

My great granny lived to be 114 years old, minded an acre garden by hand! She lived a very full life and died when i was 10 in 1980. My great grqandad lived till he was 104, she told me they each were waiting to outlive the other! They had a bet they made on their wedding night, who would out live the other! Granny used to tell she outlived him because she was gonna need some time to herself before moving on to the here-ever-after! She also told me a long life can be a curse for those who dont make peace with their past! She buried all her friends, most of her children, she told me it could be very lonely at times when there is no one around anymore to have those 'remember when... ' conversations with... She saw many a new age, as she was born in 1866, saw her first white man enter into their village in northern canada for the very first time when she was two, ( he became my great grandad)... All the things she had seen... What a wonderful time to be alive!

Many of my great grandmother's people told the stories of our ancestors spanning many generations every night around the fire starting from birth onward so we would always know where we came from. Our people are turtle clan, we have the longest verbal history, some 17,000 years in canada alone, or so my great grandmother frequently told me. What a beautiful human being you are Teresa Hsu. I'm going to take heed of what I have just heard and apply it to my life. I am 60 y o and this is the best advice I have heard during these years on earth because I feel when we think better of our world it serves us all. I have been homeless for 3 years and today I was given a permanent home by the kind heart of another. I had money over the previous years and though I helped, I did not help as much as I could have. There is no worse a pain than hunger for food and when you have children your pain is more. Now my lesson is learnt and I am grateful. I'm off to see smiles now and I'm gonna have a great day as well!

Some of my deceased friends made their money, then ate away their "rich" lives, with too many "rich foods!Sometimes NOT over eating, and sharing can pay off. This lady is happy, giving, and happiness is a great factor. BTW my friend who is 104 says she eats only real food, nothing manufactured, and not allot of it! Won't take vitamins, claims they're all a hype! Good or Teresa-she's doing everything right, apparently, and enjoying it too!

What an amazing woman?! Teach your children to be very greatful. Some people are hungry, homeless, food stricken or even very unwell mentally and physically, too. I have gone without myself but I’m doing pretty good. Never underestimate a kind heart and soul that walks this planet. Anyone who uses such a being deserves to be caught out deceiving them. Low form of a being takes advantage of the kindness of loving people.
