Embark on a journey of self-discovery through personal anecdotes and insights into grappling with questions of identity and belonging. Raised in a minority family, the speaker shares their experiences of feeling like an outsider while navigating diverse communities. Discover how embracing cultural heritage led to finding purpose and advocating for inclusivity and compassion. Explore the richness of diversity and the importance of empathy in bridging divides. Donya Saleh is born and raised in the state of New Jersey in the USA. After graduating with her Bachelor's in Psychology, she worked many jobs related to that field to help her understand how the minds of many work. Later, she went on to pursuing her masters in The Art of Teaching Secondary Mathematics, which set her path for teaching to become the main purpose in life. She worked in inner city schools of Camden, NJ for three years before setting out to become an international teacher. Beginning her international journey in Egypt, Donya got back to her roots, and stayed for two years before moving and working at the American School of Kuwait. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
