Brian Kennedy, director of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College speaks about the necessity for visual literacy. www.dartmouth.edu/~tedx/briank...
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

I really enjoyed Mr. Kennedy's lecture. I am a visual learner and he explained the nessesary need for visual literacy and that it goes hand and hand with the digital era. We need to learn to utilize our visual literacy before we can really understand the true capacity of the digital age. This will help me to be more aware of whats around me in the future and how to interpret the information I'm receiving Well done Mr Kennedy! Thank you Pamela

Thank you for this detailed explanation of visual literacy! I am researching the importance of visual literacy for my masters and I now have more than enough. As an English teacher I will now be implementing the Periodic Table of Visualization Elements as a part of my lesson plans. I believe that this will help my students REALLY see the WORLD around them and help them be better writers as well. I never knew how to analyze art so thank you for the crash course on the elements and principles of art as well.

His words were completely new to me. It was like I was blind before. I am 54 and had never look at things this way. It was an inspiring talk.

Thank you for explaining this topic it really helped me in my class, and I agree with you that this should be taught in the class rooms.

Yes it does! I taught this way, and students loved it, but it wasn't the norm in classrooms, so it was deemed a little weird. I loved the days we sat and "looked" and responded to an image. Students were affirmed with their responses, almost no matter what they were. It was freeing!
