TEDx Talks

Күн бұрын

Getrude Matshe immigrated to New Zealand in 2001 and is described as a serial social entrepreneur and the Founding Director of four successful companies in New Zealand. Gertrude's talk will centre around Ubuntu, a Zulu word which serves as the spiritual foundation of African societies.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I have had the opportunity of meeting this woman! She lived with me for a little while in America. She is a very humble woman who is a queen in disguise. She sacrificed her life and came to America alone just to lead her family out of Zimbabwe. Her strength and fearlessness still amazes me. Many blessings to this woman!

WOW, this was amazing. Thank you so much for your vision and your dream Getrude. My coach Terry Hickey urged me to watch this video and I'm so glad I did. THIS is what truly Inspired Action truly looks like. It's the not the "it breaks my heart" videos we see so often from internet marketers trying to get you to buy their stuff. This is not about buying - it's about buying into. It's about enrolling others in a shared vision of how amazing life could be if only they stepped up. And not for themselves alone, but for others too and mostly - the Ubuntu that we are. This kind of Inspired Action empowers people to help because it's the right thing to do, and we feel it in our bones. Tour de force. Brava!

I am so moved and touched by your beautiful soul sharing and authenticity. I have been in deep contemplation about the word UBUNTU and really feel my heart is aligned. A place I felt conflicted is how can there be so much pain inflicted on the women in Africa when this is a saying in Africa? I imagine not everyone embodies this philosophy? And I love the idea that if everyone gave $1 in the world we’d restore places hit by disaster. You are inspirational! Thank you for living your life boldly!

That is a very inspiring story. indeed WE live in a very richest Continent in the world. Ubuntu, make us realise the VALUE of life that is lived serving others. One's abundance is for us ALL. We believe a child is raised by the community, our approch is that of COMMUNAL rather than being INDIVIDUALISTIC.

Everything we know or think we know about the world, about ourselves, is a story. We live as much what our imaginations write upon our hearts and minds as we live what circumstance dictate. Even that is a story, telling of life itself, and in the retelling is living itself. That's why sharing one's story is so important and creating common metaphors is so necessary. Here is another culture's 'real life' "Once Upon A Time." Today I learned a new word to add to my own story... "Ubuntu."

As an African woman, this is one interpretation of an African woman, but a very wrong and misguided one! Being born and dying in a African village doesn't mean you amount to nothing. She has entirely missed the point of Ubuntu. Your relationship with your people with your family, your seed and your ancestors is what makes you who you are.

If I am because you are, and no one is individual, then hence there is no recognising someone's humanity/existence as they are nothing in and of themselves. The effect of this is that human rights are of no concern, for humans are not individuals and so you cannot help an individual from the moral basis of Ubuntu.
