Vivienne Westwood began designing in 1971 along with her partner Malcolm McLaren when London was at the forefront of cultural trends. In 1984 she launched her own fashion line and in 2004 the V&A hosted a Vivienne Westwood retrospective exhibition to celebrate her 34 years in fashion - the largest exhibition ever devoted to a living British fashion designer.
As well as being a World renowned fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is also an activist for environmental, political and human rights campaigns, and uses the medium of her shows to talk about culture and politics, more specifically about the urgent need to act against climate change. She is a Trustee of human rights organization Liberty and, more recently, Patron of Reprieve. She is also an important campaigner for Amnesty International.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I had a friend, a time ago,...he said : I dont care what you do, but for god sake, do something..." He is dead now, and I miss him a lot, but he said something, I will follow...and remeber for the rest of my life.

I wish more people would have listened to her. She spoke a lot of sense. She uncovered the covered, she spoke out against societies purposeful flaws to the exact people profiting from those flaws. Brave. She used her standing culturally to voice her opinions and tried to make a stand on things that matter. The sort of person kids nowadays should be admiring. I certainly look up to her a lot. Fine lady. May she rest in peace.

Ok. But you're still selling overpriced clothes. Your brand is dressing the bad guys' family you talk about. Lol. I wonder of she knows that a simple farmer from an organic plantation in Sweden can't afford her bags.

She is an artist, she is not saying anything thing about couture which is where her life headed. She has a platform to speak yet you focus on something other than what it is she is saying in the most negative manner. You cant even hear the message. In your world, if you have money you can't care about humanity? The people who buy her clothes are often oblivious, that is exactly what she is saying.

Think about what "overpriced" actually means. This is part of what she's talking about - we are absolutely out of touch with the actual cost of things today, in massive part due to these subsidies she's talking about. They are in every industry, including fashion. The actual cost to make a piece of sustainable, quality clothing is FAR greater than the prices we see in stores. And who's paying for the rest of the cost of that item? Then what are the consequences of that? And now multiply by millions, if not billions of items. We need to get back in touch with the real value of things.

@@gracelewis6071 exactly, I'd SO MUCH want all of the clothes to be much more expensive so that people buy less and wear them for years. Today people buy clothes EVERY WEEK because they are cheap. Sick of it
