Looking beyond the problem of housing deficit, Fernando tells us about a qualitative deficit in the housing area: existing homes that are completely inadequate and unhealthy, whose owners don't have access to financial resources or credit for renovations. He shows us how this problem not only affects people's dignity and quality of life, but how it's a public health issue, and presents and alternative to enable renovations in the slums.
Fernando is an enthusiast in the processes of social innovation. When he became involved with projects of urbanization of the slums in São Paulo state, he found the opportunity and the need to discover alternative ways to improve the quality of life of 40 million Brazilians who live in inadequate homes. So, along with two other partners, he founded the Programa Vivenda, a social organization that makes low complexity renovations with high social impact, focused on promoting health improvement for the low-income population. Fernando is also the founder of the consulting company Giral Viveiro de Projetos, which has over 10 years of experience in the development and management of social-environmental projects. He has a bachelor's and master's degrees in Business Administration by the University of São Paulo and is a member of the Responsible Leaders network of the BMW Foundation.
