In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I suspect that surveillance and information gathering have always been the most important purpose of social media. It is the perfect means for a totalitarian state to identify 'subversives' and 'dissidents'.

If you ever complain that this is taking place, they will accuse you of paranoia. The system doesn't listen to those who pose a threat because the criminals actually do their bidding, but they target the ones who pose a "bigger" threats, the ones who complains, the "whistle blowers", the activists, the smart and impoverished kind. For refusing to vaccinate, I find myself jobless in a shelter where I am targeted daily, everywhere I set foot in, and violence, drinking and smoking (in nonsmoking areas, of course) are more than common, the norm.

I just want to mention a couple more ideas. Part of the reason we are concerned that we might lose our privacy is the fear that our mistakes will be taken out of context. If there is no privacy though, it will actually be very difficult to do that since the whole context will be available publicly. It would actually be difficult to steal someone's identity if everyone can see you doing it. I think the problem of lack of privacy might only be when it's not universal.

The future of privacy appears to be threatened, but I've been wondering, if we get to a point where no one has any privacy what would happen. We would be more cautious about stalking others if they knew we were doing it. We would be so aware of everyone's mistakes that we would no longer be bothered by the notion that we are imperfect since everyone's imperfections would be apparent. There would be so much information that people would simply stop caring that so and so made a mistake.

I totally get what you are saying but society is all about being better then the next guy...weather it's true of just an illusion...the majority are lying materialistic ego maniacs and would never want there to be an even playing field to the perceived pecking order......

@Kirsten Eklund I guess I didn't elaborate that this publicity would apply to everyone, even the government and all officials. I'm talking about an environment where “nobody” has privacy, not just some people.
