Creative thinking - how to get out of the box and generate ideas: Giovanni Corazza at TEDxRoma

TEDx Talks

Күн бұрын

This video is filmed and edited by Università Telematica Internazionale UNINETTUNO www.uninettunouniversity.net.
Corazza is a full-time professor at the Alma Mater Studiorum at the University of Bologna, a member of the Executive Council, and the founder of the Marconi Institute of Creativity. He teaches science and the applications of creative thinking. Why/Which/How/Where/What/When/Experiment. A quick jump out of the box is more insight ful than a lifetime of standard thinking.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

For all those who missed his points, here is the video summary: 1:17 - To be creative, you need to practice out-of-the-box thinking. 5:30 - Be aware of your assumptions. Unfounded assumptions prevent you from thinking creatively. 6:25 - Value Long Thinking; judge ideas by how they fit as an ensemble, not individually. You can only do this with patience. 7:07 - Apply theories and concepts to areas that were never applied to before. 7:17 - Creative thinking is about finding many alternatives and choosing the best answer, not about finding the right* answer. 9:15 - If your environment punishes mistakes, you will never be creative. 9:50 - Combine different disciplines to create new ideas using metaphors.

+Mr. Ding For me, the most valuable things he talked about was at the end with his example. He describes a small "process" to generate new ideas. - You start with characteristics that you know about the issue - you apply divergent modifiers to change this characteristics. Modifiers would be to exaggerate something (up or down) or to use the opposite. This allow you to put your mind in a different setting of available choices and think about this new environment.

Well, no one sees the world exactly the same way, so telling someone to listen more closely is like having an equation understading = view * attention. See? People's views are different, so we can't really predict the understanding... That's my point of view, but you may or may not disagree with me, I don't know. We're all different!

I don't know what these other comments are talking about. I'm typically a person who gets bored easily and has trouble paying attention. And maybe, in the beginning, for like half a minute that was the case, but then what he was actually talking about has worth. He put it simply, gave the procedure to which to bring about being more creative, and then invited people to go through the procedure as an example. I have watched many videos which make a lot of claims, but this was one that was actually really helpful, and it didn't have to be elaborate or have any additions of visuals- what he had to share was worthy in itself, and he made sure to address how it could be brought about.

I personally discovered how to think out of the box by travelling around the world, living, studying, working among people of different cultures with different perspectives of life and death, happiness, and knowledge. I understood that there is actually nothing absolute in this world but rather everything is relative. As Marcus Aurelius put it long time ago: "Everything you hear is an opinion, not the truth. Everything you see is a perspective, not reality."

I agree with him about he said "get out of the box". This sentence's mean is "if you look at different, you can be creative." Therefore I try different ways for problems. Different ways very important for me. If they can do it, you can too. You are not small. Don't listen to negative people. World is big and your mind should also be big. Look at the big picture. He supported my ideas so thanks him for the speech.

I assume that people listening to a TED talk know precisely what they're getting. Informative speaches with substantial, useful information and not just someone talking in pointless, vague, cryptic, nothing. Which is why most of us are so disappointed. You remind me of people who pretend to understand Anime and spy movies to make themselves feel smart but true intelligence is knowing when someone simply doesn't deserve to be on that stage. They can't all be good. He slipped through the cracks.

I love how after school has “helped” us we are trying to re-learn what we were born with that being creativity because school’s way of “helping” us had the collateral damage of robbing us of our beautiful gift of curiosity and it doesn’t help that parents are holding back their children from being curious because the parents think it is keeping them safe but in all reality it’s hurting more than helping.

For anyone who couldn't relate what the man is saying: there's something called mind state. The mind state could be *scared* *happy* *angry* *in love* some of them are hard to recognize but as example it's easy to recognize that you're angry, and every mind state has it consequences in real life. So if you're happy you'll tend to trust a stranger though the many signs that you shouldn't. We can conclude that the mind state shape our view's prespective to the world. Now here is what the man said: if you have something you're dealing with like money problem or relationship problem, you'll probably deal with them as *scared* or *angry* therefore why don't you break this mind state and think about the problem in different way? The current mind state is the box and you have to change it to get new behaviours and way of thinking, stimulate or calm your emtions it's all your decision

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 01:43 📦 Thinking outside the box is essential for human dignity and creativity, as it allows us to generate new ideas and go beyond common knowledge. 03:17 🧠 The "box" represents the boundary between what we know and what we haven't thought about yet, making it necessary to break free from our established knowledge. 05:45 🌟 To think creatively, we must incorporate divergent information, unconventional ideas, and long thinking to cross the boundaries of our knowledge. 09:08 🌐 Creating a creative environment involves allowing divergent information, welcoming irrelevant input, mixing different disciplines, and using metaphors to stimulate new ideas. "Learning is an ongoing process that is essential for solving both familiar and new problems. By stepping outside our comfort zone, we can apply our past knowledge to new situations, giving us the ability to think abstractly and try different approaches. However, it is important to also self-regulate and stay true to our values, as venturing too far from the familiar can be daunting. It is through acknowledging our experiences and how they shape us that we can differentiate right from wrong and make the most of our learning journey."

Winston Churchill said: " For every question there is an answer that is clear, concise and coherent and wrong." Usually when we seek an answer we jump to conclusions, instead of taking our time and letting our minds dig a little deeper. Most people also think that our thoughts originate in the brain, but the brain is only like the cockpit of an aircraft while the pilot is our soul........................Falun Dafa

My key takeaways. 1. Always resist the temptation, that says that you are thinking wayyy oout of box. 2. There is no single right answer, when you are thinking creatively. 3. When you generate new ideas, never ever be like " oh, somebody might have thought/ done that before", you are self - doubting, instead do your research, find similarity and differences. *Note that we take what we need, there are lot of information here in this video which are equally important.

First of all, I agree completely his statement and his speaking. The speaking has one sentence and for me this sentence is summary of video and main idea of topic. “Get out of the box.” This sentence say “You can do different stuffs, you can be creative.” The sentence very important that. At the present time people cannot be creative because they always criticize other people's opinions but they don't give with any ideas. Therefor people should try to be creative and they must “get out of the box.”

Think out of the box, innovation, get out box, them come back! Why out of the box? Always a necessity. If same inform, what's the difference Which box, boundary what we know and what we don't know! Invisible, necessary for our dignity but risky!? Reality is beautiful.. Dominant info, how things shld be, but out side the box... Divergent info.

To summarize question your beliefs and be ready for mistakes that will happen in divergent thinking and after having ideas then assess and adjust your ideas. For eg: in sport like cricket: as coach, go beyond your comfort zone like not think that problem will solve from only that way which you are trying rather there is other way which also might don't know correct or not but try that if it makes sense and may be it can solve problem if not ,then adjust.

A lot of people are afraid of what others think. Most people’s opinions don’t matter, especially when they don’t participate. Only when someone is at an advanced level, there criticism is valid, even then it should be taken with a grain of salt.

In order to add excitement in the conference, how about we randomly select two speakers and a volunteer from the audience to discuss the relevant associations between the two topics? That would be quite challenging and exciting for both speakers and the audience, particularly to those who fear public speaking.😅
