We have been told to follow our dreams. But that isn’t always the answer.
In her TEDx talk, Vivian Vu discusses some matters that make “following your dream” a problematic concept that’s hard to stick with. Get ready to shed light on a well-known topic from a new perspective, and embrace yourself with strategies that serve as a beneficial guide for a sustainable and fulfilling career. Vivian is an international student from Vietnam pursuing her master's degree at I-Shou University. Vivian graduated with honors with a GPA of 4.0, being the graduate representative of the International Business Administration class of 2022. Her TEDx title speech is "Stop trying to follow your dreams." This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. You are exactly spot on. Remember in grade school "What do you want to be when you grow up." I'm 74 now and your thoughts apply even more so to retirement. It's more like Wheel of Fortune than Jeopardy.

Building on one’s strengths is KEY to success in life. It is true there are many skills one can learn, but sometimes one must have the innate talent to excel in a particular field. Without incredible fine motor skills, becoming a neuro surgeon is unrealistic. Without exceptional mathematical & analytical skills, one can not become a rocket scientist. These fields have many ancillary positions, which contribute to the success of the surgery & of the mission to space. I love my work as a cardiac rehab nurse. At 68, I have no desire to retire, while I know several cardiologists, who are counting down the years until they can retire.
