Performance by the charismatic Benjamin Clementine at TEDxSalford 2014.
Benjamin Sainte-Clementine is a charismatic singer-poet, pianist, composer and affecting performer. He hails from London, Edmonton Green, but started his artistic career whilst traveling in Paris, 2009, aged just 19. He has a unique vocal style and a hugely eclectic range, often infusing his lyrics with literary references. Though a musician, he also considers himself a writer. He has also been highly praised for his distinctive tenor vocals.
Clementine is entirely self-taught musically. Growing up, Clementine had little exposure to music and it was this naivety that now made his singing so confusing to classify. In his teens he had caught Anthony Hegarty performing Hope There’s Someone on television; then on the radio he’d heard the avant-garde French composer Erik Satie. Unconsciously, he had married the spirit of these two influences with poetic lyrics to produce his own material, both original and epic.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

This man makes me realize I don't need to strive for numbness to survive. I just need to breathe, feel my blood circulate and listen. All will right itself, or fade away.

Thank you for this fivee year old comment that perfectly describes what if fell when i listen to Benjamin Clementine. It's like his music is telling the story of my life but turning it into somehting so utterly beautiful that I'm lost for words trying to describe it.

when i saw him perform in tx it was a similar experience. he seemed closed off to the audience and shy. but as the show went on he became more comfortable. you saw this part of him that is vulnerable, patient and completely comedic. he appears so spectral. and he is. so much to learn from benjamin...

Benjamin is way to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, makes people cry and laugh at same time, and this takes people out of comfort zone. It goes round and round, inspiring dream. And because so, I would say that Listen Benjamim is like read Poetry!

I'm so thrilled to know that we still have good musicians out there. right now every artiste wants to go mainstream and make money so fast. nothing is real anymore, musics are so superficial. I'm rather proud to know that we still have something real that we can feel.

My God this man is astonishing. I've never used that word to desribe anyone or anything in my 53 years on this planet. But he absolutely blew my mind. This man has talent beyond anything I have witnessed ever. And as strange as this may sound, I feel so much more musically well rounded having stumbled upon his music.

Quando Jesus escolheu um rei não o escolheu entre endinheirado, letrado, fazendeiro ou empresário; escolheu um tocador de ovelha, humilde, pobre e esquecido que foi o rei Davi. Ai está a prova que Deus existe.
