In his speech on "Eurocentrism: a many-layered thing" Prof. Berktay analyses the social sciences in the early 18th and 19th century and the different vision the West had on the East. Halil Berktay, historian, Prof. Dr., Ibn Haldun University (since May 2017). Previously, a member of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Sabanci University (1998-2016); emeritus professor since 31st January 2016. Former History Program Coordinator, Turkish Studies Program Coordinator, Sabanci Summer School Coordinator, and Sabanci-Harvard Summer School Coordinator at the same university. Summary of the whole talk is that: Europeans have categorized societies of the past according to their own limited studies of themselves and that's why their arguments are not entirely accurate. if you pursue reality, then you have to make a through investigation including eastern sources before arriving at conclusions about the societies of the past.

That's normally true. I said "normally" because the enlightenment emerged in Europe so they can observe European culture and societies. On top of that, I don't even think west Europeans really observed Russian culture and society. So this is a fact that Europeans look at the East with superiority but this is human behaviour. When a child sees that he is better than other children, then he will feel superior to others. If we don't like this situation, we better to study and educate ourselves
