Hello , if i could ask , what undergraduate degree are you supposed to have before enrolling in a graduate degree in biotech ?

@@aymana.a.5766 There are different programs in every university and you can check the websites to see undergrads of which fields can apply to those programs. Normally every field of biology or biomedical engineering is accepted. Some universities also accept undergrads of Computer sciences and Life Sciences (chemistry and so on). It usually depends on the university. I'm already studying towards the bachelor of Biotechnology.

I spend 6 years in university and know about GMOs, I can produce them and I know the risks/chances etc. This has nothing to do with "capitalists" although of course they try to monetize them. Only because some people don´t think enough about all this because they want to make money fast this doesn´t change the fact that without GMOs many people wouldn´t be alive today and would die in the future.

I study Biotech and I have no problem with GMOs but food should be labelled that they have GMO. But I dont agree with the idea that they're labelled and assumed that its a negative thing

It’s a choice I’m currently thinking about, however, up and until now I have propelled myself to a beneficial pathway in English as I have struggled continually with maths and science. But, I’m in love with science and English, two near-complete opposites. I’m certain that I want to have a fulfilling career in space sciences, such as biotechnology, but I would be pulling the biggest gamble if I were to strive for a scientific career when I’ve had so much success with English. I have no idea what I’m going to do now.

I do study biotechnology and might be able to explain. First of all: yes, it is a complex topic containing not only molecular biology, chemistry and statistics but also engineering, thermodynamics and physical chemistry etc.. BUT as long as you are interested and willing to learn, there is a really good chance you might find it way easier than it seems to connect studying, knowledge and a thrive for innovation (masters diploma or higher). In my opinion the most important factor is interest and you don't seem to lack it.

The contents of study might vary. In my case i specify in industrial biotechnology.

Awesome! I’m 18 and I want to be a veterinarian. However, I thought about a career in biotechnology. I have made an aquaponics system, tissue cultures, and other lame projects in my backyard. I love doing this kind of stuff, however, I worry I’m not innovative enough to actually come up with something new. Should I continue this career or should I stick to veterinary medicine?

Ellen Smarter Bsc is more about research and development, so if you are really into the idea of research and working in labs then go for bsc. Btech is more about the engineering and industrial aspect of biotechnology so there’s more kinds of job opportunities. In the end, it depends on what you want to peruse more, industrial development or research. Also, btech is a broader field, so you can go into informatics or business later as well. Hope that helped

@@aymana.a.5766 there are many biotechnology degrees out there. You can apply for an undergrad in biotechnology but it's a very vast field. So if you already have a specific field in mind you can also do a more specific course, there are enough options! Most countries offer biotechnology programmes just look them up! If you can't find a suitable option then you can also go for related degrees like biology or microbiology etc and then pursue a more specific course at the masters level. I'm from india and we have plenty of biotechnology programmes here, I'm almost done with my degree, will be happy to help if you have any other questions

There are as so many people with cancer because now we detect it more than before. People used to die and it would be contributed to natural causes or terminal illness. As for genetically altering food, what most of the GMOs do is alter the metabolic pathway by different means. Or make the instructions to produce a certain type of protein. Furthermore, if a product is made commercially available it has had to be reviewed by many scientists and it is controlled to the smallest detail. If anything companies don't want to deal with lawsuits.

Mr. science if humans/animals/plants aren't deterministic like everything else in the universe, what are we? Agents of libertarian free will? You can make a case based on the ethics of interfering with a sentient life form without consent unnecessarily but you were not doing that. We are not imposing pain on a flower by making it change color as far as we know (if our knowledge develops to a point where we could explicitly know it caused the being to experience suffering, then we should probably stop) and for science to progress we need to explore the boundaries of what is possible.

47f0, I'm 75 and was diagnosed as pre-diabetic 3 years ago. I've been keeping it under control NUTRITIONALLY! I understand that scientists are now able to produce insulin through a GMO process. But only ignorant people (including some MDs) would use insulin to lower blood sugar. Taking insulin to lower blood sugar speeds up the process to deeper illness and eventually death. Yep, the multi-millions that Monsanto et al are spending on propaganda is working, UNFORTUNATELY.

May04bwu, I have studied the pros and cons of GMOs. Potentially it seems possible that much benefit might be gained, BUT... so far almost all GMO research and use has been to make plants Roundup resistant leading to damaged soil ecology and glyphosate inside the crop to be consumed, which is so far mainly fed to animals (and it makes them sick), and it is also used in smaller quantities in processed foods for humans. GM plants containing bt toxin is another major application of genetic application -- toxin inside every cell of the plant! EAT UP. Organic farmers use bt (bacillus thurengensis) sprayed on the OUTSIDE of the plant, where it can be washed off -- NOT having the toxin inside the plant. WHAT SUCCESS ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? 1) the "Arctic apple" -- which claim to fame is that it resists browning. What good is that??? 2) GMO insulin -- harmful, I addressed that above. 3) Golden rice -- which contains beta carotene, possibly helpful but I've heard it contains so little as to have minimal benefit. Have the down sides been tested for? Probably not. But this product might be good, maybe. What are all those successes of biotechnology that you referred to???

@Fred Pauser -SUB1 Rice for instance, is very resistant to flooding. -Recombinant HGh, now people that need it don't have to use HGH extracted from corpses. -Artemisin, A medication for malaria, very difficult to sythesise chemically, can be produced in bacteria -Monoclonal antibodies can be produced in plants relatively easily By the way bt toxin is not toxic to humans, so I don't see the problem of having it inside the plant; in fact we eat or use many compounds that are toxic to other species like caffeine, chocolate, paracetamol, antibiotics,etc.
