Jim Robert has been a public school teacher for over 24 years. He wrote and developed the curriculum for his high school Philosophy/Senior Passage Class that he has taught for over 17 years at Pioneer High School. He is the father of three and lives with his wife in Ann Arbor.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Took this class in 2011. It continues to be the most important experience of my life. The class I had was really unlike any other group of people I think I will ever meet. I can't thank JR enough for making this happen. I can't thank the others in class enough for being as willing and open as they were. I learned so much in that class. I learned more about life in that class than any other. Thank you, JR!

What's up Mr Robert! I had the privilege of taking his philosophy class in the 2000-2001 school year. As he says in the video, he really tried to make us look inward and think about our lives in a deep and meaningful way. It was a powerful experience and I can still remember some of my classmates' days in "council" very clearly. A great teacher.

My English teacher at DCC, Mr. Scheuermann, stressed that Socrates quote: "The unexamined life is not worth living" every day during our senior year. It's good to keep it in mind.

How many people kept their ptips I still got mine. I had them for 8 years, lost them in the beginning of 2016. Messaged JR told him how much he touched me, taught me how I was. He showed me from 2009 I read what I wrote who I was, took that all in again i learned from him and that in my darkest hour i grew so much... he again taught me to see the bigger picture. then he rewarded me he had my ptips from 8 years ago he kept them for all that time, those are my treasure, because my red chair moment I told the story of me not who I was then but every me as a kid me as a punching bag, my hate, my love, my fears... and well at the time I just wanted it all let out. This image of a bubbly girl was a mask I made for 13 years and I perfected it, but those in that class ,some are dead now, but their words their thoughts are apart of me. that was the time I felt truly apart of something bigger than just a family it was like being one with everyone. it is something i wish everyone could experience.

Did you ever find them? JR emailed me mine when I reached out roughly a year ago. I believe he keeps a copy of everyone’s.

@@web2122 Yes he responded to me and emailed them to me too now I got them printed and on a flash drive. I was pleasantly surprised he remembered me 8 years later lol. I take it they are also very important to you. That was the first time being in my life being seated in that red chair I told my story, of who I am and what happen to me, so when they wrote all those kind, inspiring things to me that became my treasure in this life. The first time I let the mask fall from my face to let people see the real me.

@@TheAnimekitty013 They are. I don't read them often but whenever I do, I am struck by how much I have both changed and yet remained the same. By how much the perspectives of others at the time differed from my own self-perception. The experience was invaluable and one that I wish more high schoolers could experience for themselves. I am happy that you could. c:
