"What if future cars could see hidden road hazards behind blind turns or tight corners? While this may seem like science fiction, it's actually becoming increasingly practical. In this talk, David Lindell shows how to use lasers and cameras that run at a trillion frames-per-second to see-and even capture videos-of hidden objects from around the corner.
Slides for this talk: www.slideshare...
David Lindell's webpage: www.davidlinde..." David is a 4th year PhD candidate in the Electrical Engineering Department at Stanford University, advised by Professor Gordon Wetzstein. His research interests are in the areas of computational imaging, remote sensing, and applied mathematics. Most recently, he has focused on developing advanced 3D imaging systems to capture objects hidden behind occluders and around corners. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University in 2015 and 2016. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Yes, not one iota of privacy once you are hacked. And hacking is rampant. Everyone is so cool about giving all our privacy away and even paying people to make the technology to do it even more readily available than it already was.

Maybe find the bad human hidden. One saved human or eliminated. Another is, Snow plowing truck's. City plows. At night, to help spot other objects unknown. Great conversation piece.

So, couldn’t pedestrians be blinded by the continuous flashing lasers? Even the he guy in the demo wears protective eyewear. Just to be clear, I find this development amazing, and it should be researched further. I’m not a physicist or a scientist in general in any way. I don’t know if what I try to communicate makes any sense or is completely wrong but if someone could explain that to me, I’d greatly appreciate that 🙂

There are dozens of questions raised by his idea of this technology being used in autonomous cars, and the one you're asking is an important one, especially if it relies heavily on lasers and if alternative measuring methods would fail to do the job.

A radar needs a more direct line of sight as it uses the immediate reflection of a radio wave off of an object. So it will see the wall but not what is arouind the corner.

daniël admiraal These are not technically a radar but we have created radio wave sensors that can detect a man breathing deep inside a building, behind several walls. Look up “radar see through walls for vitals Ted talk” or “a new way to monitor vital signs” The sensor data from this cannot really be used for reconstructing high resolution images but it can ACT as a sensor, they only call it a camera because it records the movement of light. If implemented in a smaller scale at higher power could reflect off buildings. I wonder if they could use non-visible light for something like this, and a special camera sensor.

Well, if people were to drive on the correct side of the road then perhaps it wouldn't be so much of an issue. What do i mean? Clearly, someone wasn't thinking when they made the image of the two cars at the beginning because if you think about which side of the road you dive on ( Don't matter what country you are from ), then either the car about to turn the corner is on the wrong side of the road compared to the oncoming car or the oncoming car is on the wrong side of the road!, lol!

@coaxialsynapse
@coaxialsynapse 4 жыл бұрын
Honey Flower It is used to see around corners dude. It is low power. This “sicko” would have to be inside the house of the person, or a family member who is spying on them - which is already a prerequisite problem. This technology doesn’t give these people any particular advantage either because it’s a DEPTH SENSOR that works as a Light Radar and visually reconstructs the basic environmental structure, it doesn’t preserve color or complex detail. Nobodies privacy is being ruined at all here.
